[Pictures] ASUS PG279QM 1440p 240Hz Fast IPS Monitor Review

EnVii

Ever since I got a 1440p 240Hz Monitor, back with the Lenovo Y27-gq, I’ve been wanting something I could stick with for a while.

Over the years, I have monitors such as the PG279Q, PG27UQ, the Lenovo as mentioned, PG259QN & Predator X27 among others.

What I would love is a 27” OLED Monitor at 240Hz or more, especially since my hardware is usually able to pump out a lot of frames in MP games, and, even in single player games. Recently played CyberPunk 2077 and I was surprised at just how high of FPS I was getting with the game maxed out (although, with RT off).

In comes my latest two Monitors,

I’ve had the ASUS PG259QN for a while now since it launched, but 1440p at 27” is for me, the sweet spot in monitors.

The Samsung Odyssey G7 27” is a fantastic monitor, looking at any review, you can see, Samsung have taken the VA technology to a whole new level, just like 2nd Gen TN with the Lenovo.

The G7 has incredible response times, with great contrast & of course, 2K 240Hz.

But the curve was something that was always going to manageable.

For games, in my opinion, it’s excellent, the immersion aspect is increased.

But for work/desktop use, I just couldn’t get along with it.

The ASUS PG279QM was a monitor I’ve had my eyes on since CES 2021.

I put down my order on 28th June, and after several delays, it arrived today,

I’ve done a comparison between the G7 & ASUS - please bear in mind, I use a very high/strong low blue light filter, hence images may have a “yellow” tint.

In essence:

Great Build Quality. As expected, ASUS has used a sturdy & robust construction for this monitor. The base isn’t overly large or space consuming.

Improvements? - I wish they offered a plain black version like they do with the 280Hz model. But this is purely aesthetic and personal preference.

Image Quality. I’ve had a PG27UQ (4K 144Hz, FALD) - and this, I must say, has excellent picture quality.

My unit has hardly any BLB and there’s not much Halo’ing/Blooming at all.

I’m majorly impressed with how good these Fast IPS displays are.

Also, I’m running it in Wide Colour Gamut mode instead of sRGB and it’s again, incredible how rich the colours are.

Response Times / Ghosting. I’ve played a few games that I can drive up to 240Hz (Gears 5, Apex Legends, Halo: MCC, Forza Horizon, Call of Duty, BF5, Fortnite, Splitgate) and I must say, the smoothness is exceptional. Same for input lag, button presses register pretty much instantly.

OSD. Very easy to use & set up, also, extremely responsive on screen.

Connectivity. Usual DP & HDMI’s. It does have built in speakers but I suspect like myself, speakers or headset will be used.

Price. This cost £800, which puts it right up there as one of the more expensive monitors. Is it worth it? If you take your gaming seriously, or you want a monitor that will provide the best picture quality without having to go to a much large OLED TV or the more expensive PG27UQ / UQX - then this is the best monitor to have.

Overall, I’m happy with it and I can see myself keeping this until the next gen 300Hz / 480Hz monitors arrive next year.

Hey,

That's one fantastic monitor you have. I wish I could get my hands on one but unfortunately, here in Poland it's very expensive. Anyways, good review 🙂

I was finally able to pick one up here in the US. I'm a little nervous since it seems like there's been some QC issues on the rollout here but I'm excited to see for myself either way.

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.
