XBox Series X controller requires higher voltage?

Do XBox Series X/S controllers require higher voltage than XBox One controllers?

I've been using rechargable batteries (1.2V) with my XBox One controller without issues. But I recently upgraded to a Series S controller and it's been having random restarts. Windows Game Bar also shows the battery status as Critical where it used to show Medium for the XBox One controller.

I don't know than because AA batteries are all standered so...

Apparently rechargeable AA batteries use 1.2V whereas standard non-rechargeable ones use 1.5V.

Not really. NiCd/NiMh rechargeables all pretty much operate around 1.2v compared to a typical alkaline or lithium which operate at 1.5v.

 

Honestly OP, I'm surprised you've been able to get away with the 1.2v batteries in the older controller for as long as you have. There is a reason the play and charge kit uses a 3v battery, after all. They're meant to operate right around 3v and not 2.4v. Only thing I can really say is that you're probably going to have to bite the bullet and buy a play and charge kit.

I've been using 1.2V batteries on the thing since I bought it. Never had any issues. The only reason I upgraded was one of the buttons became unresponsive.

I assumed 1.2V was in the operating range of the controller.

I run Eneloop rechargeable batteries in just about all my AA and AAA devices. Literally have never had an issue, including with my Elite Controller (have not tried with the new Elite controller or the Series X/S controllers, but works on original Elite, 360, and xbox one controllers just fine).

I use those too. Turns out the new controllers don't like those.

Strange. Most devices are good between 1v and 1.5v… seems strange it would need upwards of 1.2+

Could very well just be variance from controller to controller, honestly. I've never had that great of luck with rechargeables in electronics.
