What will be size of a uncompressed RAW 8K 16 bit 2 hour long movie?

Color depth × vertical resolution × horizontal resolution × refresh frequency

So in case of 8k (lets go nuts and record at 60fps 16 bit RAW): 16 x 8192 x 4320 x 60 = 33.97Gbs = 4.25GB/s

2 hours is 2x60x60 = 7200 seconds

7200 x 4.25GB = 30.6TB

 

So get your NAS ready 😄 You might need a few extra drives. (Nevermind the transfer rate)

I'm pretty sure you're off by at least a factor of 3... 16-bit color per channel, so 16bit/color * 3 colors * 8192px * 4320px * 60 fps = 102Gbps = 12.75 GBps (not counting porch times and vblank and all that nonsense).

Yes, this was a rough calculation 😄 Number was already high enough. Tho yet another thing learned: bit depth is per channel.

Not for raw, raw video doesn't have color data, as its data before the debayering has happened. With raw video your computer turns it into rgb/yuv video, not the camera.

Nope, raw video is the same bitrate as black and white. There is no subpixles in a camera. Each of the red/green/blue parts of the sensor are counted as one picked, and then the processor or your computer with raw turns it into rgb video. 

 

Kinda seems like bs advertising to me as monitors show number of rgb pixels, where as cameras are listed by the amount of red, green, or blue receptors.

I was gonna write a thing about how you were wrong, but no you are correct. A lot of cameras are actually counting pixels by the number of photosites they have behind a beyer screen...

 

I guess the only exception to that is 3CCD cameras, but they are increasingly uncommon these days...

 

That is super bs marketing though, I'm surprised more people aren't aware of it! Even on the green channel, that's half the effective resolution!
