* Completed Project Rebuild Custom Desk PC - Simply Khaotic *Major Update (Custom, Fabricating, Welding, Plasma Cutting, Painting)

Toasted Waffles

Hi Everyone - Welcome to Simply Khaotic Build

Story So Far

I'm starting to enter into a complete rebuild of all of my hardware and enclosure. I built my Pc about 4 years ago now into a custom made desk and it was awesome. After the first year I  modified the design to accommodate the custom cable runs and new layout of the board. 2 Days ago that pc decided it didn't want to live anymore and the hard line tube on top of the CPU broke out of its fitting and dumped coolant all over the board and ram.  I was forced to remove all the hardware for cleaning and attempt to salvage the hardware inside. It did not go as planned.....

New Build :

As of right now I am replacing the hardware with a new Ryzen 9 5950x and a new Gigabyte Aurous Extreme Motherboard.  I will be reusing the same custom desk however it will go through a all new paint change and update of the layout once more. I am using this to plan and model a entire new desk that will be thinner and lighter than the current one and one that isn't made of wood but welded steel. I'm planning to move the entire board to the center of the rig and fixing all of the half baked holes currently in the wood.

Hardware :

Spoiler

Old Hardware :

Threadripper 1950x overclocked 4.25ghz all core

Asus Zenith Extreme Motherboard

128gb of DDR4 3000mhz Corsair Vengeance RGB

2 M.2 Nvme 3.0 Drives

SLi GTX 1080ti's

Corsair HX1200 Watt Power Supply

2 Custom Water cooling loops

New Hardware :  (* plans to change / upgrade )

Ryzen 5950x

Gigabyte Aurous Extreme Motherboard

* 64gb of my Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB 3000mhz

* 2 M.2 Nvme 3.0 Drives

* SLi GTX 1080ti's

Corsair hx1200 Watt Power Supply

2 Custom Water Cooling Loops

New Design :

I am starting from scratch like I said above, new frame and structure from the ground up. I am using my current desk as a template for the new one. Currently I will be painting and rebuilding my current desk into something amazing until the new one arrives.  I will be going with a matte gray paint on the inside with a blue and black color scheme on the inside with RGB of course.  I will be uploading photos daily as I continue to get my main rig back up and running.

Update #1

I stripped the rig down and started cleaning out all of the water cooling gear. I move everything into the garage and started to replace the back panel of the desk. I am moving the hardware to the center of the desk and moving the power supply as well. Part of the rebuild I'm filling in the holes I made last time and  the random holes around the outside. I will be repainting the whole desk the same color but the inside color will be changed.

Give me your thoughts

Those are some massive reservoirs. I have one that size in my current rig and it just drinks down coolant like a german during Oktoberfest. In comparison my most recent build for my mom took less than a litre which really surprised me lol. Also interested in how you're planning on making the desk thinner, as I've had a few plans for a desk build myself where I basically switch over to blade-server components (EK server blocks and server PSUs plus a distro panel as my res). GLHF!

As a side note, im pretty jelly of that band saw you got there. I've been looking for a similar or larger band saw (at least 16" throat) myself for a while locally, but haven't been able to find anything that really caught my eye. There was an awesome 1952 Walker Turner MCB1160 that I was really disappointed to learn had already sold 😞

I love old tools, I have a 1972 English built drill press that I love.  So currently I'm not making it thinner on this current desk. This build is in two parts - Part 1 rebuild the current one and Part 2 - ground up behind. So in part 2 I will be building a whole new desk from steel and aluminum. I'm planning to make it thinner by taking out the excess height that I have and I will be using a you riser to lay the you sideways.

Update #2

Getting ready for sanding, I widen the hole for the power supply cables and will be cutting the mother board power holes later today. I refilled the holes from update 1 with a better wood filler. Update 3 will be tonight with first glimpse of the new paint job and a sneak peak of my new reservoir holders that will be custom made steel.

Update #3

I got everything started in paint, I put just two thin layers of gray ok the inside then put all new gray on the outside. Later tonight I'll put the first coat of white and mock up the cut outs I need to do for the motherboard. Tomorrow I'll finish the gray off with two more thick coats and one heavy white coat on the inside.  I also have started working on the new holder for my res but those are near complete yet to show. 🙂 Enjoy

Update #6 - Major Update

Today I started rebuild everything. I finished fabricating new reservoir stands and special anti vibration pump mounts. Let me know what you think and please don't judge my welding too bad. Tonight I will get everything major in the computer and tomorrow it will be plumped.

Update #6.5 Mini Update

Got the pump brackets bolted in and the pumps mounted - way more drilling and cutting than I thought as they sit right about the lower desk supports 😕
