Should I upgrade my current device, Or stay where I am at? (Laptop Gaming)

So at the moment, I own a Dell G7 7588 purchased back in 2018. Lately I've been looking into VR gaming and start moving more from Console to PC (Laptop) Gaming and as I'm seeing games like Red Dead 2, Cyberpunk (Bad example), and the upcoming Battlefield 2042, I question if my laptop could even handle these games. For reference here is the basic rundown of the important stuff,
CPU: Intel Core i7-8750H
RAM:16GB
GPU: GTX1060 MAX-Q
Storage: 128GB SSD, 1TB Hard Disk
At the time, the specs didn't seem bad for the price, just over $1000. But now I'm concerned if this will be able to hold up to newer games and if I should upgrade. I was quite worried about VR gaming as well because while a GTX1060 the bare minimum required for gaming on an Oculus Rift S, the MAX-Q has always been known for being just a tad bit slower than the regular. At the end of the day I'm just concerned is all. If anyone could give me some advice or if I should upgrade, maybe some recommendations, it would be extremely appreciated. My maximum Budget this time around would maybe be $1,500.
Thank a Million!

Is there a reason why you prefer laptop gaming over desktop gaming?

It's less comfortable, it's more expensive for the same performance and the heat is a problem.

Personally I just use laptops for light stuff like office and presentations.

So I would keep the laptop for office and presentations and get a desktop gaming pc.

I would love to shift to just PC gaming as I know long term its more affordable, however I am constantly on the move and its a lot more convenient to grab my laptop and charger and go than to grab a whole PC Tower, Monitor, and Keyboard and go. And besides the heat issue which is definitely present on my laptop, I like being able to just move it around and reposition without needing to be at a desk or a table.
