There are 2 sticks of 4GB each?

Try removing power from the system and clearing CMOS.

If that doesn't work, remove one of the sticks and clear CMOS. Is the full capacity of that stick useable?

If not, power down the system, put the stick in a different slot and clear CMOS. Now?

If not, repeat the previous step until you've tried all slots.

If not, try the other stick in all slots. clear CMOS every time you change the RAM configuration.

I'm not sure it should have really caused this problem, but the cmos battery could have ran out of juice over that time.

I'm just saying, replacing the battery may also need to be done alongside anything else to actually solve the problem

Where are you getting this 1.92 reading from? BIOS directly? Or Windows taksmanager or something?

Well first, in task manager under the performance tab, memory section, what does the "Hardware Reserved:" row say? I would guess something around 6GB.
