Download Cheat Engine for fun to mess around with a game, and now can't go back to normal leveling up...

cwgzz

I downloaded Cheat Engine to mess around with a game called Octopath Traveler to get some crazy EXP boost multipliers and stuff, just for fun, and now I want to remove Cheat Engine but for some reason, the EXP multiplier is still being added and I tried everything that I could think of to remove it. I tried uninstalling Octopath Traveler through steam, control panel, doesn't work. I tried searching my entire C: drive for anything "cheat engine" related and deleted that, didn't work. I am really confused as to how to fix this... I don't intend to play the game cheating, I just wanted to have fun for an hour or so and then just continue where I left off before but I somehow broke the game. Any help please. Thank you.

My guess is you'll need to do a clean install with a new character.

New save file or at least a save from before you used Cheat Engine.

Alright, I made a new save file and it levels up normally, but does that mean that my original save file is just f*cked then? I am gonna have to restart the entire 20 hours I put into the game? lol I didn't go far into the game so if I have to, then so be it, maybe it's a lesson to mess with cheats lol

I believe so if you don't have any separate save points form the before. I know Octopath Traveler uses autosave and save points. Always make save backups when modding or especially when using programs like Cheat Engine. Live and learn.

If you are restarting, I'd do a clean install to be safe.

I'll just delete the save files that I have in the steam folder or wherever it's at and just start over....
