Google Mesh Network and Standard Modem

Bwildes

Is it possible to have the google mesh network and modem be part of the same Wifi name and network or is it better to just use the mesh network? At the modem point I wanted to use all if its ethernet ports rather than plugging in a gigabyte switch into the mesh network's hockey puck as the puck for the google mesh only have two ethernet ports. I don't mind using the gigabyte switch, it just feels like a waste of ethernet ports on the modem to not be use. The modem is a Netgear C7000v2 with a Ac1900.

What you call a modem is an gateway (modem/router). A standard modem for Coax service would not provide WiFi or do NAT. It essential takes the ISP's connection (Coax) and provides and Ethernet connection.

While you can set the gateways SSID to the same as the Googles, its not going to be part of the mesh system. Devices wont be able to roam on to the Google pucks and vise versa. ALSO because the "Modem" is a gateway the Google Mesh system will be under Double NAT.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
