iPhone 4 as a MP3 Player?

Hi, i've found iPhone 4 16 GB in working condition. The phone out of date so most apps doesn't support iOS 7.

 

It really has awesome headphone performance, it's even better my current device.

 

I've decided to use it as a MP3 Player.

 

Does it support YouTube Music? Is there's a good Music app that supports iOS 7?

If you jailbreak it you could offload it but you shouldn’t have to. also pro tip. I own a 4s and can install iOS 9.3.6 so you should be able to update to that, compatible with more apps. But the only thing is it’s 32 bit cpu so most apps are not compatible. Minecraft runs on it tho (10 FPS but still) so it’s still a bit capable. Mine runs Spotify fine. Also if you purchase YouTube music on an other newer device you should be able to download an older version on that phone if you already own it. Hope I could help!

16GB of storage isn't great as a music player, to me anyway. Why not get an LG V20/V30/G6/G7? These have HiFi QuadDAC 32bit 192kHz audio with 3.5mm audio ports. Plus a mSD expansion slot for greater storage, I had a V20 and a G6, best audio I've heard on any phone. But if you're deep into the Apple ecosystem, iTune and such, then an iPhone it has to be....

iOS has a feature where you can install older versions of apps on phones that don't support the newest version. However, in order to be able to do this, you have to have already downloaded the app on a device compatible with the latest version at the time of install. So you could in theory download an older version of something like Spotify, but it would require you to have already downloaded Spotify before using your account, or have access to a newer iPhone (that you can log in to your account on) to install it on now.

I'm using YouTube Music but it needs iOS 11.0. But iPhone 5 is only iOS 10. Do YouTube Music run on iOS 10?

 

Also, i could install songs on the device itself.

 

Does iPhone 5 makes good MP3 Player?

AFAIR latest version for iphone 5 is ios 10.3. So no it does not make a good mp3 player in your case. To add to that, buying an iphone to be used as a mp3 player is not smart, you can get android phones with much better DACs than iphone 5 for around the same (like LG G4).

Buying a LG G4 is a bad idea as most of these suffer from bootloop issues (incl. LG V10, Nexus 5x, LG G5, G Flex 2).

I got a LG G4 that never bootlooped. Bootloop was exclusive to 2015 manufactured phones.

Too much energy spent for a simple mp3 playing.

If you only want to use the default mp3 player, no problem, but for cloud music app, most won't support the old OS, so you can't update.

You can't install any apps if you don't have it already (the older version), unlike android apps where you still can find older version somewhere on the net.

iPhones also have optical out via the headphone jack if that’s something you could make use of-there might be androids that also have this functionality but I don’t know if any

No... they don't. Many MacBooks and MacBook Pros did for a while but that ended in like 2014

Nope, they never have. Some Macs have, but Apple never put that in an iPhone. Not sure why they would put it in a small device like a phone.
