Upgrade Advice.. is it worth it?

Hi everyone 馃檪

Contemplating an upgrade but wish to know whether it is worth it.

Currently have a 8700k, 32Gb 3000mhz RAM聽& a 3080 FE.

Looking at a Ryzen 5600x with an update to 3600mhz RAM.

It is worth the upgrade? I don't do any productivity, only gaming. Will I see a tangible difference at all?

Many thanks,

Louis

If it were any GPU other than a 3080, I would say no. However, since it is a 3080, you are likely to be a bit CPU bound. Monitor your CPU and GPU usage in games, and if you're GPU drops below 95% usage for more than a second here and there, then you probably should upgrade to a 5600X. Also, you might as well just keep the memory and try to overclock it a little bit to get it to 3200MHz+. If you didn't have memory, yeah get 3600MHz, but since you do, might as well see if you can get it up to within the sweet spot of Ryzen.聽

depends on you

only if you're CPU limited in games, which highly depends on many factor such as what game, what resolution, what FPS etc etc

My PCs: Desky | Beddie | Miney聽|聽Benchie

Things I need help with: (nothing at the moment)

Spoiler

none atm

I hate Intel's pricing, Ryzen's weird quirks, Nvidia's pricing, and Radeon GPUs in general

Spoiler

Products聽I like:

Spoiler

Sony Xperia Z1 / Z2 / 10 ii, Asus Strix 970 / 1070, Samsung SSD, WD HDD,聽Corsair PSUs (AX, RM, CX(grey)), GeForce GPU, NZXT N450/S340, be quiet! Coolers, G.Skill Trident RAM, Logitech M525, Logitech G440, Razer Deathadder Elite

Products I聽hate:

Spoiler

Xperia Z3, XiaoMi 5c, Radeon GPUs, Razer Audio Products, any bloatwares

Companies I absolutely adore: (and hope it stays that way)

Spoiler

be quiet! - sent me AM4 mounting for my DRP3 even though it's way past聽the timeframe stated, no questions asked

Corsair - very good RMA experience, absolutely recommend

Companies聽I hate:

Spoiler

Nvidia, Intel, Apple, TMT (Thundermatch, a retailer)

Personal Blacklisted Companies:

Spoiler

Acer: shit tier quality products, shit tier customer service thus far, they "tried" to solve my issue but they arent really doing anything but delaying and delaying. (on-going case since July)

Gigabyte: horrible customer service (gigabyte had literally 0 customer service, asked me to go to retailer with NO WAY to email them about a question) but at least they fixed my shit in ONE MONTH (would probably take me 1 hour to fix if they let me email them)

XiaoMi Phones: built聽like a tank but the software is buggy as all hell

Seagate HDD: had too many dead seagate drives

Kingston SSD: 300V controller swap thingy

Razer (except their mouse)

Remember, just because I had聽good/bad experiences with these companies/product, doesn't mean you will have similar experiences too. I would still recommend these products if they made sense for your needs, but I'll add a disclaimer of my experience if it's聽relevant. Feel free to DM me asking why they are where they are.

The 8700K is still a very capable gaming chip. Unless you're gaming at 1080p or using medium-low settings, you probably won't notice a difference, even with a 3080. I'd keep saving up for a more substantial upgrade like a 5900X, or wait on a future CPU, or invest in a better monitor if that's at all lacking.

I try most titles 馃檪聽I have a 32"聽1440p 144hz Display. Doom Eternal is lush at Ultra Nightmare settings.

A lot of titles i see the GPU pegged and CPU never at 100%. Most of the time between 40 - 60% with the exception being Flight Sim.

Thanks for your inputs!聽

Might as well stay with my 8700k then for a bit 馃檪

Money saved LOL
