Changing the mousepad on a laptop? Windows Precision touchpad on an older device

jorgedelechuga

Is there any reason that this would not work? The touchpad from a Dell Inspriron 15 5567 is a Windows Precision touchpad and available for $10ish, and the ribbon cable looks the same as the regular one connecting the touchpad in my older laptops. Aside from needing to alter the laptop to physically fit the new touchpad, is there any foreseeable issue with getting this to work? I have not found anything about this on the internet.

No idea, Dell, HP, and Lenovo like to make thing preparatory to the point that swapping fans don't even work all the time.

For 10 bucks it might be worth trying but you may want to plug it in and test compatibility before you modify the case.

Good luck! 🙂

I am not sure how you plan on actually removing the touchpad. I tried removing that on my laptop and that thing was not coming out, I could not get it to move even though I was about to melt the plastic on top of it with my heatgun. Just check if your laptop has modded precision drivers, otherwise I wouldnt bother.

Thank you for the input, I'll definitely try it outside the case before I cut anything. The main tool of attack will be a dremel, and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

just because the cable looks the same doesn't mean the pinout is the same.  It's a roll of the dice.

Before you do that be smart and TEST THE TRACKPAD FIRST. Chances are it 99.99999% won't work. Just because a cable looks the same it isn't and you can easily fry something.
