What do I need in my motherboard/case to be able to install Phanteks RGB Strips and turn on RGB fans?

Hi so I'm looking at buying the Phanteks Neon Strips in my PC that i'm going to build https://www.pccasegear.com/products/48072/phanteks-neon-digital-rgb-led-kit But I don't know if you need a particular case that's compatible or a particular motherboard that is ARGB or RGB compatible.

Here is my build of my motherboard and CPU. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Josh1982/saved/#view=4PnRK8

I haven't decided on a case because I want one that could possible support RGB bypassing the motherboard, the cases i'm looking at are, but im also open to suggestions.

Thanks.

It has to be the motherboard that is ARGB compatible. Usually cases these days also have ARGB fans instead of RGB fans, which connect to the motherboard.

The Phanteks RGB is ARGB. The Gigabyte board you chose both has ARGB and RGB headers, so you're fine. It's a B550 chipset, so it has most connections.

As for the case, from the ones you listed I personally prefer the Lian Li Lancool II. It's a preference thing actually, but also airflow is important. I'd say check the case reviews to know more about them.

Do you need a certain amount of ARGB and RGB headers if im going to plug in the fans and some phanteks rgb strips? If so do i have enough?

Sorry for the late reply. I just checked for you. The Phanteks kit comes with a cable for a 5V ARGB header. Usually a motherboard has 1 or 2 ARGB headers and 1 or 2 RGB headers, different per motherboard. Note that these 2 headers are different. For Phanteks you can connect the RGB strips together or separately, which means you need 1 or 2 headers. For the fans, it's usually 1 connector per fan, so you won't have enough. Here's the catch though. If you buy a fan kit, most of the time it will come with a separate RGB controller just for the fans. That controller box will require only 1 header.

If you don't have enough RGB/ARGB headers, you can buy RGB or ARGB splitter cables. They come in 1 cable that can split into 2, but goes up to like 8 I believe.
