How can I boost the FPS of a game?

cwgzz

I downloaded Octopath Traveler on Steam and I am using the built-in Xbox gaming thing to show the FPS but this game is running at 37 FPS. How can I boost this up to 75 FPS that my monitor and laptop can run? Thank you!

Lower some settings? Or even resolution if needed if you absolutely need to hit that mark.

I did and still doesn’t work. Still getting 37 FPS… and this game is a 16 bit game so it’s not like it needs a lot of power to run

That should be fine, as the recommended is a 1060, your laptop is worse, but I imagine it would be enough. What is your cpu? And what resolution are you running the game at?

I was running the game at 3440x1440 but if I lower it to 2560x1080 it runs at 60fps but it’s locked to that. My monitor can go up to 75hz though. And I am not sure about the cpu. My laptop is the Acer Nitro 5

If it's locked to 60, check that your monitor actually runs at 75 (in windows right click desktop -> screen settings -> advanced screen settingss) and check if the game has an fps setting in it's settings (probably not if it's an old game)

It's a game engine limitation and not your hardware.

Here is a fix:

Quote

Set FPS cap in GameUserSettings.ini[3]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open GameUserSettings.ini.
  3. Add FrameRateLimit=120 under [/Script/Engine.GameUserSettings] where 120 is your desired frame rate.

Frame-rates above 60 will make the party-members' movements choppy and blurry

out of funds or the item is too expensive I guess

Ah, Okay. I thought that if there were too few funds, the card would place the owner in debt, as opposed to straight up being rejected. Maybe that's different in the US. Or maybe she is using a card other than a credit one.

Lower resolution!

I played Monster Hunter World (pre Iceborn patch which actually improved things slightly) at something  weird like 480x360 on my Lenovo laptop at like ~45fps, it was fun, and honestly much better than nothing!

Only issue I had was text as modern games really dont scale up well in that department…

But still, it was great and after like 5 minutes you get used to the potato resolution! 👍
