First PC Build (after 12 years)

BestHippo

Budget: about 2000€

Country: Germany

Use case: future proof gaming, virtual machines, photo/video editing

Other details: The PC is intended for a Windows/Linux dual boot.

WD SN850 for Windows, Samsung 970 Evo Plus for Linux

The Crucial MX500 is supposed to serve as additional storage.

I don't necessarily want to play on very high resolutions, FHD at 60Hz/120Hz is totally sufficient.
The focus is on future proof gaming.

I would be very happy if you could give me some feedback (and suggestions for improvement if necessary).

The current price is around 1250€ (without graphics card).

Thanks a lot!

Obliterates your pcpartpicker whilst being similarly priced

5900x 12 core, you are gonna need cores for those vms and editing

Phantom black cpu cooler to keep the cpu cool whilst being cheaper than a drp4, and then again i bet you arent ocing anyways so no need for an extra thicc cpu cooler, though if you want you could oc or just enable pbo and the cooler will handle it just fine

Two 1tb ssds, instead of two overpriced 500gb ssds, you dont need that much speed unless you are transferring 4k video regularly, and they both have dram cache aswell

Pure base 500 case as its cheaper than the 802, if you need more space go for the pure base 600

Gpu is up to you

Thanks a lot for your answer!

Would you still recommend the 5900X for some "lite" vms (1, maybe 2 small linux distros at a time) and "lite" video editing (on a hobby basis, FHD videos)?

The 5900x is more than enough for that, i think a 5800x might be better if you want to upgrade the gpu

I was more focused on the vms part since to get half decent performance you want to allocate 2 cores for all i know
