How to stop headphone wires from twisting

I have a pair of Astro A40s, and since day 1, the wires have been twisting like this

What I am doing as of now, is unplugging them and letting them spin until the twist is gone, and then plugging them in again... I have considered getting sheathing for them but I don't want to screw something up... Any ideas?

Put them on and take them off the same way everytime.

Put them on and take them off the same way everytime. 

I have always done this with all of my headphones... I have one of those hooks that is on the side of my desk that holds them, so I just take them off and hang them every time

okay, so I took them off last night, undid the twists, and put them down on my desk.... woke up, they are still really twisted..... gnomes must be the only option

The wires inside plus plastic have already taken shape. Over long time and even though you say you don't twist them I think you still do. Unless you have really put some markers to make sure that you handle them same everytime. So only way to straighten cable without damaging it is to untangle it and put it under light stretch. Or change whole thing. I was about to check how my old cable was but then remembered that I threw it away. The new cable hasn't started yet. Its only bit bendy after oackaging.
