Is that phone carrier locked? Many careers like to be jackasses on their phones and remove basic features like these.

Yeah I think so, the carrier is T Mobile

Then nothing you can do unfortunately. The best option would be to go close to the router.

I got the pc to my router and connected it via ethernet but I still don't have internet.

Not reliably. In the event of a Kernel update you should "git pull" the latest branch beforehand and re-build the dkms module afterwards.

This is one of the downsides to using a third party module outside of your Distro's repository.
