Anyone else really enjoy AC: Odyssey?

GamerBlake

Granted it’s the first AC game I’ve ever played but I see a lot of negative reviews on Steam about it even though I thought it was a fantastic game and one of my favorite games of all time. I loved the huge open world and all the stuff there was to do. The combat also felt really enjoyable because it required skills such as knowing when to strike, when to parry and when to dodge as well as when to Sparta Kick some stinking barbarian bounty hunter off a cliff.

Im curious if anyone agrees with me that it’s a great game?

Was my first AC game as well and I loved it. Graphics was amazing.. I found myself just sitting on the fast travel points just staring out and admiring the beautiful landscape and scenery. Combat was awesome too as you had many different ways you could build and play. My favorite though was listening to my pirates chanting and singing while sailing the open waters and water/naval combat.

Yeah, all of the new ones have been pretty great (Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla). My only complaint is the length. They all take way too long to complete.

Don't really like anything recent from Boobisoft.  Fake E3 gameplay, Fake trailers, Downgraded graphics.  Gameplay wise the games are nothing but checklist busy work.  Seige was alright.  My main gripe is with the 'Ubisoft Standard Sandbox' that's come from Assassin's Creed.  All their games seem to be that now.  It's fucking awful.

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

Isn’t that a good thing though?

It means you’re getting more out of a game you paid for.

Unless you think it feels artificially drawn out with repetitive content. In which case I understand that argument.

Personally though I got 200 hours out of my first play through and just started New Game +

Same here! xD

I am a classical history major and I loved that they included actual historical locations and made the buildings & outfits contemporary with the time.

Although the concept of money was pretty ridiculous 😂.

I collect coins and below is a 4 drachmae silver coin of mine from the same time period. For comparison the average wage of someone living in Ancient Greece in the 5th century BC was about 1 drachma per day.

Yet somehow Kassandra is carrying around 200,000 drachmae without even having pockets 😆.

That would mean she is carrying 3,436 kilograms of silver on her person or around 7,000 lbs of silver but somehow she can not only carry it around but can also climb cliffs with it.

They should’ve kept it contemporary by using obols for rewards & money and keeping the numbers smaller.

1 drachma = 6 obols

Yes and no. It's artificially drawn out. It's great if you have the time to devote to it, but you can't really just do the story, because you need to hit all the side content to level and get gear. I like the games, but at this point in my life I can't just throw 200+ hours at a game.

You would love Resident Evil 3 remake! That game can be completed in like 5 hours.

Same with Resident Evil Village. I can speed run it on Hardcore in under 2 hours even though a first time play through is about 10 hours.

It is one of my favorite games.

History wise I enjoyed Origins more since I was into Egyptology way back in the 70s.

I use Odyssey now as a bench since it hits the CPU and GPU hard.

Valhalla seems easier to run.

I have no issue with long games since I am retired now so the longer the better.

I really like it too but I'm also a bit biased since I also really like ancient greece and things associated with it.

It was the first AC I played since Assassins Creed 3 (played every single on before that). And I really liked the changes they made gameplay wise, especially fighting got more interesting and challenging.

The one thing I really hate about Odyssey is that expansion where you are forced to become a parent. I played as Kassandra and that uninteresting, soft-looking, wimp was the father which didn't fit the game at all. That Spartan dude would have been a way better choice.

I still think AC 2 is the best one but Odyssey is right up there IMO.

Probably because it's cool to hate on Ubisoft. I mean yes they do deserve some criticism for certain games but they actually made some pretty good games in the last 5 years AC Odyssey being one of them.

I really enjoyed Origins, but I held off buying Odyssey as it seemed like more of the same.

I can 100% recommend Origins.

Odyssey has some rooms that are a maze where you have to move shelves around and stuff.

But that’s mostly at the end game and it’s only a few times total so it doesn’t get tiring.

Well, ever hear the expression that sometimes "there's too much of a good thing"?

(Or something similar)

I was a little burnt out by Origins, and didn't necessarily want to dive straight back into a similar themed game with near identical mechanics etc...

From what I understand, Odyssey was seen as perfecting the changes Origin made.

I may well pick it up one day, but there is also the cost factor which has seen games like Odyssey stay at near full AAA retail despite being several years old.

Yeah that makes sense.

I highly recommend getting it during a Steam sale if you do decide on getting it.

Normal price for the Ultimate edition (with all DLC which I recommend since “Fate of Atlantis” was amazing in my opinion) is $119. Which is just insane.

But during the Steam sales you can get the Ultimate edition for like $20-$30 and if you don’t want the DLC you can get the base game for like $9.99 or $19.99. I can’t remember exactly which I just know it’s a huge discount.

In all honesty it didn't feel like an Assassin's Creed game,

But felt like they were copying elements and the style of gameplay from The Witcher series.

I was disappointed because of that,I really like the fast and quick action of the older Assassin's Creed games.

I actually didn’t really like the Witcher 3 game at all. 😞

But I loved AC: Odyssey.

It may have deviated from the traditional AC formula but I still feel it’s an amazing game with a great story.

Who doesn’t enjoy Spartan kicking bad guys off cliffs to their doom? 😂

I'm with you with this one.

I think the witcher 3 is a decent game but nothing too special and honestly I don't get why so many people are praising it as a Masterpiece.

I also think Odyssey is better not by a lot but still. It's just a more interesting and a more fun game.

This is by far the best part of the entire game lol. I specifically played and enjoyed it because it didn't follow the same AC formula. They're good games, but just not really for me in that fashion.
