Radeon RX 6600 XT Prospects

Forleb

Many of us hoped for this card to come around since last year, and now it finally looks like it will in the coming months. AMD has remained almost strictly in the high-end range on their releases so far; It's no secret that they've taken this approach to ensure that they'd reach a stable position in competing with Nvidia's massive leaps, but the time to capitalize on being the best has passed, and now the underdog is finally trying to satisfy the low end again. Judging by the leaks thus far, the Navi 23 GPU should be a direct competitor with the 3060 Ti in performance; The only truly concerning speculation at this point is the MSRP. Nvidia made it clear with the launch of the 3080 Ti that they were fully willing to soak up as much of the gap between the 3080 and 3090 that they could, and while the 6600 XT doesn't have any real gap to close, that doesn't mean AMD can't still push as close to the 6700 XT as they want. Recent data has confirmed that Radeon cards are actually consistently available now, with the downside of still costing a fortune; AMD may see this as their own means for justifying an overpriced card, instead of creating their own imbalance like Nvidia did. Things are starting to look up for the GPU market, and especially after the recent success of FSR, AMD has never been in a more crucial spotlight then now. We just have to hope that Lisa Su can retain her radiating halo through the release of this upcoming card.

The issue with cost is that MSRP was never reasonable in the first place. It's not just some money grab. We're in a component shortage, not just of GPUs but also VRAM and even things like capacitors. Worldwide logistics are also a mess, so shipping costs are higher. Then, in the U.S. you have the added cost of tarriffs.

The 3080 Ti MSRP is exactly the same as the 2080 Ti was at launch. The problem was that people had some misguided expectation that Nvidia was going to go cheaper, and they didn't.

Well, if it's priced low enough it could finally beat the RX 580 as the best value card. Neither AMD or Nvidia have released true budget cards this year, and hopefully this is the one.

The RX 580 is not the best value card. The 1660 Super has the same MSRP and clearly beats it in pretty much everything. Also, if you're scaling by FPS per dollar, the 3060 and 3060 Ti line up pretty much perfectly with the 1660 Super for that scaling. I wouldn't call it budget friendly, but the value is absolutely there.
