Eveytime I enter my product key in Microsoft's iso file download page, I get an error... should I give up trying? What are the things that may possibly go wrong? Is my product key duped or something?

As Windows 7 is no longer supported, they may have removed / disabled the key verification and stopped offering windows 7 for download.

Sadly, Microsoft has DMCA'd forum in past for letting people link to alternativer ISO downloads. Hence, posting links to such is not allowed.
