Why do old peeps keep touching their tongues while turning pages or counting cash?

Yesterday I was walking past an ATM and their was this old man, who withdrew some cash, and he lowered his mask just to touch his tongue while counting the money.

 

And old people do this quite often but why?

Because their fingers are dry and paper is almost impossible to handle with dry skin. Its not just old people that does it, I have extremely dry hands in the winter as well.

Same reason people lick their finger when turning a page, because dry hands often have little to no grip on paper/money.

It goes without saying, that especially with the current situation it's not a good idea to put potentially dirty fingers into your mouth. In general, it's a good idea to wash your hands after handling cash money anyways, right now.

You just havent counted enough stacks of cash in your young age to not have to lick the tip

Back when i worked in a bank branch i had one of these

 

 

basically a small sponge in a cup that you fill with water to wet your fingers. same reason, just less gross when handling other people's money.

When you work with your hands for a living your skin becomes quite dry and thicccc (callous).  Some days I can barely turn the page in a book or split two sheets of paper from each other.  Little tongue action and voila, easy peasy

I think its to make it easier to turn a single page, idk maybe they wanna make sure they only turn one page.

I never lick my fingers while handling money.. that's just gross. Do you know how dirty people are? Fitly creatures. That would be like watching someone suck on a doorknob.. twisted lol.

 

As for licking while turning pages.. again, not a habit I got into. The occasional lick when a page sticks sure.. but just a minute dab.. not trying to persuade it to go out again..
