SATA III Add-on card and proxmox and raid ZMS

Board has 6x SATA ports, looking to run 10hdds so need to add 4 ports through an add-on card and run it all in RAID 

 

Im a newb to software, will 4 HDD's on a add-on card in raid (ZMS) need a specific add-on card, and if so please suggest!  Will it saturate PCIE lanes when being used?  (Running 4tb WD Red Pro's) (total newb here, feel free to judge my lack of knowledge on this lol)

Id really suggest getting bigger than 4tb drives, and get normal red plus drives or ironwolfs instead of the pros.

 

But any sata card will work. Id get a lsi hba as they seem to work the best.

 

Pci won't be a issue, hdds are slow, and much slower than the pcie bus.

Can you recommend 2 or 3 with links, Ill pick one of those up?  Id appreciate it! 

 

Drives are already in, Ive asked him each time we build another server the WHY for the smaller drives but he is happy with its use case lol

Bump - could really use some recommendations that are known to work with Proxmox, Ill order tonight!  Need 4 more ports, could use maybe 6 - 8 for future expansion if needed.  Budget is whatever is needed to get the job done.

 

im browsing Amazon, and Newegg and there are so many options.

Id get one of these from ebay

All of those lsi hbas will work fine.

 

Then you need a sas cable like this guy

And you can connect 8 drives(or many more with expanders.)
