Samsung 980 PRO Cause game to crash!

Since i put a new os on my brand new 980 Pro, my system usually crash after 15 min in game. Some don't even last 10 seconds, "that’s what she said". My mobo is a B450-F GAMING so im limited with a PCIE 3.0 x 4. But when im running an os on a different ssd and play a game that is installed on the 980 Pro everything seems fine. This problem is above my current PC knowledge.

Did you install the Samsung NVMe drivers? It may make a difference.

Everything on my pc is up to date, firmware, bios and drivers.

Samsung Magician != Samsung NVMe drivers. Confirm they were installed?

They are not, thanks for the tip.

 

I found Samsung NVMe driver V 3.3 but i get this error message 

 

I will have to tweak something in the bios i think

I guess I have to take that back... the driver is only for up to the 970 PRO.

Maybe there is something going wrong with the motherboard. I tried the ssd in the weak m.2, crash still.

Is there any test i can run to see if the ssd is okay?

Make sure firmware is updated, and no reason to keep samsungs software on.

And update your mobo bios

 

My 2tb 980 pro works flawlessly, did before the firmware update too, but I have a gigabyte master mobo

Just going to point out I recently discovered xbox one x controllers crash windows and nvidia drivers until their firmware is updated.

Might be related, but probably not. I spent $400 on new hardware before I figured this out personally.

This bsodding is due to an incompatibility between the PCIE-ASPM implementation on some motherboards and the 980pro, the 980pro goes into a low power state and port reset is issued which results in the volume handles being invalidated, this causes the kernel to generate a critical exception and throw the WHEA error.

 

Solution is to either set LSPM to Off in the power profiles in windows, or disable PCIE-ASPM in bios.

Hello guys ! 

Well for me personnally it was none of the above. 

I found out that after playing for a few minutes my whole pc would just freeze and everything (unable to do anything but to move the mouse) but I could still talk with friends on discord and listen to the great sounds of the game looping.

Well the thing for me was just that my SSD was overheating :

I checked, while playing, the temperatures of the SSD (by following this https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/check_drive_temperature.html lol)

With this I also was looking at my performance tab in disk manager,

And so I realised that at a certain temperature my SSD (980Pro M.2 Samsung) would start to get to a 100% utilization. 

The SSD was located in the PCIe Gen4 M.2 port right above my GPU, and so playing power hungry games would generate a lot of heat.

I didn't think much about it, but I tried to move the SSD to the M.2 slot below my GPU, and I was happy to see that everything works perfectly again.

Since I bought a pack of 5 Artic P12 PWM PST fans, they are on their way and i'll see if I can put the ssd back into it's original place.

 

My Specs : 

CPU : AMD R7 3700X

GPU : MSI RTX 3060Ti Ventus 2x

RAM : Corsair Vengeance 32gb 3200MHz

SSDs : Samsung M.2 980Pro 1Tb / Crucial 500go (classic)

Case : Cooler Master MasterBox MB520 RGB very bad

PSU : Corsair TX650M
