Ethernet port in the charging brick (Sony Vaio)

I have a laptop, sony vaio svp1321c5e, in the charging brick, there is an Ethernet port, however, it is not working.

do these kind of Ethernet ports need special drivers? no Ethernet adaptors show in the control panel.
