How much Case fans do I really need?

Magnus1stcool

I have a Ryzen 7 5800x and (hopefully) soon a rtx 3070 in my Pc. Curently I have a Noctua air cooler for my Cpu and only one Case fan (is that enough?).

Generally two case fans (front and back) is recommended, but whether that is enough/too much for you depends on a host of factors such as:

- What case do you use?
- How warm does it typically get where you live?

- Where is the case located? (i.e. on your desk vs. in a small cupboard)

- How much do you value the quietness of a PC?

- What type of fan(s) and cooler do you have?

Typically I would recommend 2+ fans at the very least, as nowadays you really don't have to get very expensive fans for a good experience.

For example, a 5-pack of Arctic P12 fans is around 25-30 USD and cools rather well for not too much noise. Subjectively, I think they look good too, as they are quite muted in color, but of course if black doesn't fit your color scheme they may stand out.
