Will i benefit from a capture card

MingLee420

So i recently got into streaming on twitch and its going well although i do have to limit my fps in order for the stream to look sorta good because the max bitrate was 6000 and i was thinking to just get a capture card cuz i want max settings and unlocked fps so i have 2pc's one is main and the 2nd pc is just an i5-8400 no gpu and idk if an i5-8400 would be able to stream all the things with the capture card

Main:

  • CPU
    10700k 5ghz All core 47 ring ratio 1.275v
  • Motherboard
    MSI Z590 A Pro

If your first system spec is sufficient, I don't see why you'd need another system

But if you want all the fps, then sure

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I don't really know much about these so I can't really recommend anything

But I do own one cheapo USB capture card, it's only $8 or something and does the job okay

I think eposvox recommended it, saying it's decent, but I heard there's some issues with 60fps, so there's that

It might do x264 slow(?)

Though it depends on your resolution and fps

Why would you use OBS on both PC if only one is going to stream it?

Should do fine

Though I still personally prefer to do it from a single PC, you get more control of things like virtual audio cable and what not, but I'm sure you'll figure something out

If you have an GTX 1650 Super or better then the NVENC on it is better than what you would get with the i5 8400.

Regarding bitrate... 6000 is recommended. I've been using 8000 bitrate without issues.

Obviously, the viewers then have to have faster connection as well to watch you.

But what's in your main PC? I was trying to say that you may not need 2nd PC at all as it's usually more hassle than it's worth.

You limit fps from your recording/streaming software. Not from the game. You can game on higher fps just fine and just limit output to stream. Its not like we are still in 2010s. Capture cards have passthrough limitation because of what connections can carry.

Have you tried using the NVENC encoder with that pc?
Turing NVENC improves quite a lot in quality compare to Pascal NVENC (iirc it matches x264 Slow in terms of quality) while doesn't eat up as much resources as x264. Recent Windows and OBS updates has brought fixes to the GPU allocation issue that plagues some FPS game like Apex and PUBG.

? Do you get something odd if you don't limit it from the game? Granted, last time I've streamed games it was 2014, but even then streaming at 720p30 and game was running at 70+fps just fine.
