Why are new budget phone less powerful than a old flagship.

Slipping Jimmy

I'm looking to get a new phone. I was looking at Samsung.  A S10+ cost the or a little cheaper than the A32.

I know it has a better battery and camera. But cameras, I can care less about. I only take pictures for ebay and poshmark.

I always wondered why do people buy newer budget phones, when flagship from a year or 2 ago is cheaper, and have better specs.

So what are good flagship 1-2 years ago, that are sub $300 today?

Also is there a list of what phone have what updates. Or are getting OS updates, and for how long?

I don't want a Motorola. Because they get OS updates like 1 year after it comes out.

I was looking at the Moto G9 Power. It released with a 15 month old OS. And than 20 months later it got Android 11.

Not always. I couldn't get my hands on a replacement S8 instead of this A51 for the price.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Used or refurbished, maybe. Most people also go with the newer phones for newer versions of Android.

You also don't care about cameras, which a lot of people do.

You can say the same with CPU.

Why the new i5 (10400) is better than the old i7 (7700k)?

Budget phone use better chipset, a tad lower than current flagship, but similar if not better than 2-3 years flagship.

Also competition in the camera and battery department is fierce, no one want to be the last one to adopt last year flagship features.

Adding more camera or bigger battery is easier, and sell a lot.

My current phone Redmi Note 10 pro: 104mpx, 5000mah battery, 120hz AMOLED, for only $250. Amazing.

The new SD 780g beating last year 855 in antutu.

Series are meaningless now, its like comparing old i7 vs new i3.

Lower end chipset have it's benefit, mostly better battery life compared to flagship due to lower clock speed.

Which budget phones? they have classifications, higher budget, mid or low budget.

Most of the top tiers (A52 level) has at least 4000mah.

Yeah, i totally agree, it's mostly just for marketing, but have you seen these the pictures?

You really can't tell the difference these days. Even budget phones can deliver decent pictures.

Does a 8% difference really mean anything in the real world?

Manufactures have been cheating antutu before.

There's a massive issue with that, and that's that SoCs do MUCH more than just things that can be figured out by benchmarks like Antutu. Higher end SoCs take better pictures, handle other things better, have better modems, etc etc.

I don't know where that previous person got their Antutu info from. The 855 and Exynos 9820 perform more than 50% better then the Helio.

The 2 phone I were looking at, A32 and S10+. The 10+ have a better CPU. And out perform the Helio in most benchmarks by 50% or more.

So how is the Helio better than an 855?

Because a year or two out cheaper flagship phones are mostly resale, refurbs, shady sellers, & excluded from the attractive network plan deals. They also have a shorter lifespan of updates. What do you need a flagship (or that level of specs) for anyways?

My experience with phones has always been that the flagships will be consistently outmoded, the budget tier has surprises.

Bought a moto g after android 11, still holds up, all day streaming battery, a cpu so fast I've never waited more than 10 seconds to download an app, & a camera almost as good as the pixel 3a

I never go for older phones or refurbished, for 2 reasons.

1. Older phones even you get them new the batteries have been deteriorating for that 1-2 years. So you'll have to spend more getting a Replacement battery. *note * the second reply also applies to this.

2. Refurbished phones usually had their batteries replaced that means the seal has to be opened. That means the ip 67 does not apply anymore nor does it's original warranty.

Look to the left, slap from the right, look to the right, slap from the left, look up, kick down low, look down low, uppercut to the head.

Congrats I've been knocked out.
