Can HDMI arc be plugged into regular HDMI slot on graphics card?

Go to solution Solved by thewelshbrummie,

The soundbar model number would have been helpful but some thoughts:

Does your soundbar have HDMI in AND HDMI out? If it does, connect the HDMI out of the GPU to the HDMI in on the soundbar and the HDMI out on the soundbar to the TV.

If your soundbar only has 1 HDMI out socket, that will only work on a display with an HDMI arc socket (and it will be labelled as such). Which is essentially TVs. Computer monitors and GPUs don't support it.

You can always get a bluetooth dongle for your PC, though don't expect the sound quality to be great.

I have a GTX 1650S (I already use 1 dp and 1 hdmi for dual display set-up) I want to use a soundbar wihich only supports wireless, BT , and HDMI ARC. Can I plug the HDMI Arc into the regular HDMI slot on my graphics card? Will it work>

If you mean audio OUT, I'd suggest that you can; audio RETURN, however... unlikely.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

As far as I know (e)ARC is a TV/AVR thing, not a GPU thing, so I don't think it will work. You'll probably need one HDMI going to the soundbar, set that as audio out and then have another HDMI or whatever connector go to your monitor as display output. Unless the soundbar supports image passthrough perhaps.

You sure can.

Plug an HDMI 2.1 cable from your 3000+ series direct from GPU into the Soundbar HDMI In port. Don't bother with the eARC port. Download Dolby Access and DTS Sound Unbound. If you have a Soundbar with Dolby ATMOS and so forth that is.

I just have a Samsung HW-Q700B Q-Series Soundbar (2022) but when using the DP for monitor and HDMI to the soundbar. Go to 'Display' -> Enabled extended Display. Have the Soundbar as the 2nd 'monitor' and maybe drag it top or right-ish to minimise mouse going to a non-display.

Once enabled, your monitor will be primary and when you open Dolby Access,  head to the Products tab and click on Home Theatre. Continue through and go to experience. All going well, head to the Home tab and watch the videos with Dolby Atmos.. Depending on your soundbar model, it should also notify you what format it is running. Mine auto switches to DTS:X or Atmos or general format depending on the content. You should at least now have ATMOS,Dolby MAT,Dolby Digital Plus,Dolby True HD.

Alternatively, if you do not have a HDMI 2.1 graphics card but have a HDMI 2.1 onboard graphics (i.e. a z690 mboard) you can enable onboard video in Bios and plug the cable from your motherboard to the soundbar in the same way. For me, this actually provides more sound features. Either way, in Control Panel choose 'show large icons' dbl click on the Sound Icon and go to properties. Just leave it as 24-bit 48khz in general. You can enable spacial sound in there if you want.

But yeh, really depends on your hardware and soundbar as to how far you can go. Mine is only a 3.1.2 Soundbar but has 9 speakers with the upfiring ones. Sounds fantastic.

I also have my Audeze Maxwell headphones to take advantage of purchasing Dolby Atmos 😄 plus they are epic headhphones
