Is 1080p ultrawide monitor worth buying

Chrollo

Lately I've been planning on buying a monitor. Up until past couple days I've been thinking about LG 27QN600-B 27" this 27" 1440p monitor. But ultrawide monitors caught my attention and since I use my pc to mostly play singleplay games and do editing/digital arts ultrawide seemed a better option.

LG 29WN600-W 29" is the only ultrawide ips monitor I found in my budget range. But I'm curious, is 1080p ultrawide monitor even worth using or should I save more and buy a more expensive better ultrawide monitor If I want to benefit from ultrawide monitors. Would 1080p be a bad option for such monitors, should I go for standard 27" 1440p monitor I linked instead.

IMO, buying something with only 1080 vertical pixels is extremely limiting in 2021, especially if you have any any editing/digital arts as you mentioned.

I'm a massive ultrawide fan but I started with a 3440x1440 model and would never step down in the vertical resolution department. I'm looking to soon upgrade to a 3840x1600 model.

29" is slightly too large for 1080p imo, pixel density would be too low for my taste. I would argue that going past 27", 1440p is a better option.

Can confirm. I have a 29" 1080p UW at work, it's not terrible but it does get a bit bleary. The 25" 1080p UW I was using at home was much better, but also quite small. I've made a bigger leap to 27" 4K, but 1440p would be great as well.

Also for the OP, what singleplayer titles are you playing? Stuff like Fallout can be very hard/impossible to get properly working with 21:9, which is why I moved back to 16:9 displays for gaming, as pretty much every title will work with that aspect ratio (barring really old stuff which I believe was 4:3).

Ultrawide is unfortunately sorta niche and doesn't get the greatest support in games. Some will support it and some won't. I would personally opt for 1440p with a good refreshrate over a 1080p Ultrawide.

I've been gaming with an Ultrawide since 2017 (PG348Q) and this is something I hear repeated a lot even now in 2021 and usually by people without them.

Maybe back then it was true but these days, i'd say the games that don't support ultrawide resolutions are far and far between. Time goes on and things improve. I never thought it was bad even back in 2017 but today.. zero complaints.

I would say that there are quite a few that don't or if they do its not very good. Also I like to play competitive games and basically most of them either nerf or don't allow it. Also non AAA games are much more common to not support ultrawide.
