Which PC to buy out of the two?

Budget (including currency):

Country:

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Hey guys,

Newbie here buying my first PC. Would appreciate if someone could look at the following two pre-built PCs and let me know which is worth buying. I'll be gaming at 1080p (60hz monitor). Thanks in advance.

1000$ Pc vs 2000$ pc.

The 2000$ one is better.

edit, altho both might be good enough for 1080p gaming (depending on game ofc) the more expensive one would do it faster and better looking.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Thanks. What would you upgrade in the $2000 PC? Cooler? SSD? Any recommendations would help a lot. Cheers.

Maybe the PSU if its really bad, but it looks like a good system. No need really to upgrade for 1080p gaming.

The cheaper one on the other hand will need upgrades for enjoyable experience. (Like RAM for a start, 8GB just isnt enough anymore for gaming)

Thanks a lot. Someone on Reddit said the case has bad airflow and the cooler needs to be replaced. Would you agree? I'm new to all this so I really can't say.

But I appreciate the time and help you've given me to help me make a good choice. BTW, the GPU is Gigabyte - still recommend? I've heard mixed reviews on that brand.

For MSFS 2020, would you keep it at 16gb ram? And 1tb ssd?

Dell just quoted me $2400 (CAD) for the following build:

https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/gaming-and-games/new-alienware-aurora-r12-gaming-desktop/spd/alienware-aurora-r12-desktop/daar12_s83e?configurationid=11f2e590-199a-4faa-9fa7-be9edb7de9aa

It comes with an rtx 3080 (OEM). Though I may not need it now, I would like something that I could use in a year or so if I upgrade my monitor. What do you think? 3070 or this?

CPU Central Processing Unit, does most of the hard lifting and calculations.

GPU Graphics Processing unit doe all the graphical work (like when you plag a game)

PSU Power Supply Unit, making the power from the wall nice for the components.

This last one was the one i meant, they can make or break a pc, kinda.

I dont know about the case airflow, but there are many ppl on here that do know. Give them time to respond. 😉

As for MS2020 it depends on what you want out of it.
I think with those specs it would do ok. Dont expect 4K 120fps. 🙂

Yeah i would skip that. PSU i questionable (at least ive heard).
But you would need to add RAM to make it work smooth (single channel is so 2010).

You only get a small (256GB) SSD (but mechanical 1TB).

It would need to much investment for an already overpriced device. Personally i'd skip that.

Do NOT do Dell. Never ever.

If you want to see why, watch Secret Shopper 2. Here's episode 1.

Some red flags off the bat are:
1. Single channel RAM (this is a big no-no)

2. Proprietary parts (no upgradeability)

3. "Low-Profile Smart Cooling CPU Heatsink" if it's anything like what I've seen before, it's trash. Here's part one of a video series on Dawid Does Tech Stuff tearing an XPS tower down. The Alienware likely has the same cooler as Dell (and I think Alienware as well since Dell is Alienware) as Dell only puts their fancy coolers on K Intel CPUs, and the 11700F is not a K CPU. It'll thus have a crappy cooler that will cause it to overheat and thermal throttle.

Thanks so much for that very helpful information! I appreciate it a lot. And I'll skip the Dell! 🙂

Thank you for letting me know about this!! Glad you pointed out the Youtube video on it. Some people praise Dell so I was wondering....but never Dell! Thanks again!

People whom praise dell are either very stupid or ignorant (sorry but thats what it is).

They have hardware thats worth it but not in gaming section anymore.

You're right now that I read into it more.

I found a 3070 Rog Strix bundle with an AMD 5800X for $1500 (CAD). Would you recommend this over the Gigabyte Eagle or Aorus models?

I found a 3070 Asus Rog Strix bundled with a Ryzen 5800X for $1500 CAD. Would you go with this or the second option still? I know I'll have to build the PC as there's only the GPU and CPU...just want your opinion. Thanks.!

yes the 5800x and 3070 build would be better because of the extra cpu and gpu cores.

Thanks for confirming. The second build has a 3070 too, but it's a Gygabyte 3070 Eagle OC. I'm guessing you would still recommend the Rog Strix?
