It seems like the 970 evo is better value overall compared to the wd black sn750. would I need a heatsink on it anyways? I have a crappy pre-built acer nitro 50, so I wouldn't be surprised if it did not have very great heating. People say there are better deals than the samsung ssds, but I haven't been able to find any 512gb nvme pcie ssds that look legitimate enough for a better price. could anyone help me choose? going to be using it to boot into linux (still have my slow 1tb hdd for windows) thanks so much for the help!

Shouldn't need a heatsink, I've been using a 1TB 970 Evo for a good while now, have had no issues. Same with my 960 Evo and older generation WD Black (I did eventually put an EK heatsink on it purely for aesthetics). Most PCIe 3.0 drives don't need beefier cooling.

Actually, the SN750 is the better value. It beats the 970 Evo in most tests and is usually cheaper. There may be some confusion because the 970 Evo *Plus* is definitely a better drive than both.
