Windows 11 leak [General megathread]

Message added by Spotty,

Do not take this as an opportunity to post inflammatory remarks over operating systems or to argue over which operating system is the best. Treat others with respect, be excellent to each other and don't be a dick.

Discussing the news of the leak and the features that are present in it is fine but we do not allow distribution of copyrighted software, including linking to third party download sites. Do not post guides or links to download or otherwise obtain the leaked copy of Windows 11.

I'll die on this hill too, nothing substantial is changing and if we learned anything from literally every leaked build of windows to exist ever it's too early to call how things might pan out

A.k.a. cursed experience. They should have an "offline account" option in the front page.

Just really hoping they don't shove Microsoft account login down your throat constantly during setup like they do on 10 but I doubt it, wouldn't be surprised if it's required on Home/Pro editions (or you could just not connect to the internet).

The OOBE allows for local accounts.

How can I get the 'leaked' image? I want to try this out in a VM.

The real question is ... how many games will be totally broken by this upgrade?

Upgrading from one major version of Windows to another ALWAYS breaks compatibility to some degree.  On the bright side maybe we'll see GTA 6 soon.

this isnt a linux skin....

if it was, it would be using the Linux kernal, not the Windows kernal.

I guess that'll make sense. But in 2021 I would at least hope someone would've tried to install this on bare metal to give a more representative demonstration of how it would look. Sort of hard to judge a OS UI change until you can see it running at a resolution it was designed for. And I don't think 1280x1024 would've been one of them. It might actually look alright at 1080p and 1440p, who knows.

This was most likely a manufactured leak.

image.png.fa6041b77f1b643d0b128a9463f31cb3.png

Also, many tech outlets seemed to post articles about this like they were lifted from an NDA.

My guess is that explorer is close to complete. I wish we got tabbed explorers in this release, and a less spaced out start menu, but at the end of the day I can always install classic shell if I hate the new one. And (assuming it makes it to RTM), you can always enable the old start menu. Windows 11 probably doesn't have the latest experience pack (remember, Microsoft is packaging apps/features in what they call "experience packs", so they can dynamically update features/apps without updating the OS itself) that will unlock the new settings and store apps that were rumored.

Also, have we gone full circle? The Windows 11 logo looks just like the Windows 1.0 logo.

IMO, to ease the horrors of many people in this thread, Microsoft should add a default/classic layout option in the OOBE for the taskbar. Personally, I prefer the centered icons, but don't like how the start button is moved as well. I would've preferred them to just keep the start button to the left and center the icons.

But either way, Windows 11 is not going to RTM next week. Never has Microsoft announced a major version of Windows and have it RTM in the same month let alone the same year. We still have a long ways to go before it RTMs, and looking at how buggy this release is, we have a long way to go.

Remember, when Microsoft demoed Windows 10 in 2014, it looked like this:

screen_shot_2014-09-30_at_2.23.00_pm.jpg

Windows 10 RTMed like this:

This will not be the final design.

The issue is that it doesn't install on systems without certaint tpm chips, or so I've heard on Reddit, for example, I can't install it. It says I don't meet the minimum requirements.

Glad to see that this leaked build doesn't have everything 😁

I love how people freak out on some old build leak thing, as if this is the final product. How about you guys wait for the reveal next week?

Anyway, I still expect people here to complain regardless... same people who complained about Vista/7 icons, Windows 7 task bar (remmeber when people were calling it Mac OS X clone 🤦) and Aero interface... and yet "Windows 7 was the best OS ever made. Bring back Aero!". What now? "Windows 10 was the best OS ever made!" ?!?

Aye Aye Aye.... I don't know what to say to you guys... It's just a meme at this point (from my perspective).

Wait for its OFFICIAL release, USE IT seriously with an open mind... THEN you can compare.

I think I would like to see them change up the task bar and give it rounded corners if the rest of the UI is going to be embracing them. At which point... guys it's just macOS.😂

It's absolutely hideous.

Wish they'd bring back the Aero styles from W7, this edgy aggressive style looks dumb and bad, like flat icons or this art style
