Which one is better? I got the X3440 OC'd to 3.8ghz, the i7 runs at stock

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, Nvidia RTX 2060, 16 GB 2400 MT/s DDR4 Fedora 34 x86_64

Just overall performance, raw power. I get to choose between those two and I don't really know which one to use.

The 4770 can boost to 3.7ghz all core and is made on a newer 22nm whereas the X3440 is made on a 45nm process which could mean that the 4770 has higher IPC. Personally I'd pick the i7-4770.

Those 1156 Xeons are great overclockers, I can even get it to 4ghz stable 🙂

It depends heavily on the task. Haswell has the benefit of AVX instructions, and a single core frequency of 3.9 GHz. (likely you can run it all-core 3.9 GHz.)
