Lenovo Y520 laptop have oil / grease on CPU heatsink

Wolfskate

I was cleaning my laptop's fans the other day and noticed there are some sort of oil or grease on the CPU heatsink. Not very sure whether any other components leaked any liquid but my guess is the thermal paste, anyone here experience this kind of issue?

Either that or some sort of thermal pad is liquefying. Or the heatsink is a tad cold, but the fact that its not watery pretty much debunks that.

Probably oil from thermal pad

By any chance, a gigabyte/aorus laptop?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Oh I never thought a thermal pad could melt, due to lifespan?

No it doesn't melt , it was because the thermal pad itself contain some sort of oil iirc

  • 4 months later...

This happened to me also on my Y520.
I made the big mistake of changing the thermal pads for 1.5mm ones and now my laptop is overheating. I changed the thermal paste too, but nothing helped. I've already contacted Lenovo to know what the thickness of the thermal pads is, but they only say that it's recommended to buy a set (0.5mm / 1.0mm / 1.5mm) and nothing else, they didn't even tell me where to apply each thickness.
The attendant even had the nerve to tell me to buy a new heatsink. I am desperate.
