Transfer from hd to ssd

Unknowncj
Go to solution Solved by cbhagberg,

Most manufacturers has some sort of cloning software.

Samsung uses Data Migration Software. link: https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/

Kingston has Acronis. link: https://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/acronis-download

I have used Samsung software multiple times without issue, and it also leaves the old drive alone so in case something does not work, you can just swap back.

How do I make sure that my boot hard drive and my installation of windows transfer over to the new ssd. Why do I need and what process do I need to take to make the transition

Do you have one already?  Some come with cloning software, if that is what you mean.

Most you just put the new SSD as a secondary drive, or a later SATA port than the original drive.  Run the software from the media, can be a little CD or you can download it usually and put it on a USB thumb drive.  Once the cloning process is done, you shut the system down, remove the original drive, and plug the SSD into that port.  Then boot it up.
