R5 5600x idle frequency?

Hi! I recently upgraded from an i7 3770k to this lovely 5600x, and I'm using the stock cooler.

Temps are normal, 30-40°C but the cpu fan is quite noisy so I start digging around.

So HWMonitor says every single core runs 3.6GHz at idle, I thought this should be lower while not running any programs, something like 2GHz...

Is this normal behaviour or there's something wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Have you installed the AMD chipset drivers and applied the 'Balanced' power plan in Windows?  Also is it a constant 3.6Ghz or does it boost to 4+ghz?

It does turbo up to 4.6 and then goes back down, but I'd expect it to go further down.

I think I did install chipset drivers, but will check that next thing. Thank you for the input!

If you select the power saver mode it should drop down to 1.7 or so.

Where is that option? On windows power settings or somewhere else?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid and CPU Z is just reading wrong

It's a Windows power plan - Balanced / Ultimate Performance / High Performance / Power saver.

Power Saver puts your minimum Processor power to 5%, you could do the same thing on balanced if you wanted.

What motherboard and bios are you running? The 5000 series should put cores to sleep when in idle even without the power saving plan

I'm using a Gigabyte B550m DS3H.

I did a clean Windows install on a separate ssd and it lowered to 2.2ghz so everything's fine hardware wise, must be some junk on my drive.

Thank you all for you support!
Cheers!
