Clarify something cable-related for me please

I bought a 7" Raspberry Pi LCD to serve as a sensorpanel for my new build. It connects via HDMI. I forgot my videocard, an AMD FirePro W7000 only has 4 displayports.

Reading around the web, it seems that a connector can be had in two configs:

 

Cheap n cheerful

"Active" and expensive.

If I am understanding things properly, I can go from DP (out) to HDMI (in) with no issues, but the reverse isn't true. At least, not without an active adapter cable which isn't cheap.

 

So, am I understanding this correctly and can get away with a cheap n cheerful DP to HMDI cable? 

My RadeonPro WX7100 (also with 4 DP connectors) drives one just fine to a 5" Raspberry Pi screen using a cheap n cheerful DP to HDMI cable, but I can't seem to find the specs on the W7000 that say whether it can or not.

yeah in your case a cheap passive DP to HDIM should do fine.

Converting DP to HDMI doesn't require any special adapters. A cheap one will do just fine. Your GPU doesn't have to specify compatibility either - it's DisplayPort, it'll work.
