Vega Frontier Not boosting properly to rated clocks

herb
Go to solution Solved by herb,

UPDATE. after following the GN tweaking guide i ave now seen much better performance. this card is now performing as expected

so in a previous post i was talking about how i needed to get a gaming driver for my vega frontier to get it to run games properly. long story short, i have a working gaming driver now. i expected this to fix my problems but it didnt. now that i have a gaming driver, im able to monitor the clocks on this card. so i decided to watch the clocks while running a game and it turns out that the vega frontier doesnt like to clock higher than ~1380Mhz when its supposed to hit 1600Mhz.....

anyone know how to get it to run at the proper speed?

You hitting thermal limits perhaps?

i dont think so but i suppose that could be the problem. if it was thermal limits wouldn't it at least hit the rated speed and then clock down after a little while?

Vega Frontier has a Base Clock of 1382 MHz, and a Boost clock of UP TO 1600 MHz.

Key word(s), "up to".

If Power / Voltage / Thermal limits allow.

Gamers' Nexus actually did a piece on the Vega FE, about it not being able to reach advertised boost clocks at stock.

This configuration is unsustainable in stock settings, as the core is both power-starved and thermally throttled (we’ll show this in a moment). The thermal limiter on Vega: FE is ~85C, at which point the power and clock will fluctuate hard to try and maintain control of the core temperature.

In a decent case ya shouldn't even need to undervolt (unless you're super sensitive to noise), just tweak the fan profile for higher rpms. I had my Vega FE sitting at 75C max in an Evolv ATX which isn't the best airflow case.

ill take a look at the GN page, i hope it works, otherwise i will probably have to get an accelero 3 to get good performance
