Amazing higher performance with new PSU!

This is short of incredible. I put in the C850 PSU and it was running so smooth, I kept checking to icnrease my res scale only to see that it's already at 100%.  I was able to crank up Mesh to Utra and it's as good as before.

The gpu uses a bit less power as it would constantly pull 250w with inferior results before. The settings are the same. 

 

I wonder if this has to do with power stability? Maybe the card can maintain the samee clocks at lower voltage? Maybe it was just my replacing the thermal paste from a few days ago?

 

Maybe now I can OC the vram some more? 

 

I'd say this thing easily went from minimum 45 to minimum 60fps at these setitngs.

 

I don't understand.

Well, I suppose it would depend on what you had before, but generally, yes, people take PSUs for granted and they're actually an extremely important component of your system. Stable, reliable, and clean power delivery means your components can perform at their best.

 

This isn't going to scale, like once you have a good PSU, getting an even better one isn't necessarily going to improve performance, but going from a bad PSU to a good PSU can definitely make a marked difference.

Changing PSU isn't going to give you better FPS.

The voltage/ core clock is variable depending on the workload and the gpu limits clock, so I presume it also  raises voltage to keep stability. if it gets better current and stability, it would thus increase performance.

It was the thermal paste swap unless the other PSU had something terribly wrong with it

there was an interval of time between the swap and the replacement of the PSU. I'm pretty sure the performance was much better after the PSU, before that it was mostly just noise related. About the first PSU, past mining settings were no longer stable and the gpu would crash within the night. New psu might cause be to try OCing the vram some more.

 

I played bf5 with just thermal paste change, then after. tbh I didn't care enough to do a test. I could do it now.. if I had more of an incentive 😄

Its not powersupply related. 

 

in fact you swapping the PSU has essentially no change on clock and voltage behavior.
