My PC won't boot after a heavy gaming session.

smkurf

I was playing Need for speed Heat, and temps were getting pretty high, like 100C high. So I took off my side panel and faced a fan into the pc, this greatly reduced the temps to around 80, this worked for a few days until my pc just turned off one session. Now when I try to turn on my pc, a light on my MSI board, EZ DEBUG, would show on the cpu for just a split second and disappear. I've bought a new cpu and changed and it still hasn't worked. I could smell burning after it turned off.

Two possibilities.

1: PSU is dead.

2. Mainboard is dead.

General suggestions: If your PC reaches 100 Degrees, dissamble it, repaste it, check the Airflow. Opening the Sidepanel and place a fridge next to it isn't troubleshooting.

For now, if you have power on the Board, the PSU possibly still works, so replacing the Mainboard and testing could lead to success. But I would instead try to take a look at the whole structure instead of simply replacing what you grilled, because you will run into a similar situation again.

Yeah so that brand is basically known to have nothing but bad psu's that kill systems. So as a start get a new good psu. Aim for at least a 550w unit from the b tier on this list

As for cooling what case do you have and what is your cooling setup? Because it is NOT AT ALL normal for things to get so hot. What even got to 100c? If it was the gpu that thing was basically on deaths door.

I have a stock ryzen cooler, the thing that got to 100c was the cpu, and I have two intakes and 1 out case fans

What case? Fans are useless if the airflow is very restricted.

100c on ryzen 1000 series cpu's is asking for it to die. IT's been 3 years since the 1600 launched so if you got it early I would not be suprised if the thermal paste has dried up.

Yeah after removing the cpu fan there was basically no paste left

Sadly no, the pc fans dont light or spin at all. I've narrowed it down to being the PSU.

That was the best guess from the start. But hey at least you also replaced thermal paste that really needed it.

Just make sure to get at least a b tier unit from the psu list.
