a Question on using 6 pin to 8 pin connectors

MoHaMaDRz

Hi every body, my PSU is XFX Pro 550W Pro (80Plus Bronze)

i was planning to upgrade my gpu from RX 580 to RTX 3070, RTX3070 Power is 220W and my RX 580 Power consumption is 235W , i was thinking if i can upgrade my GPU witout PSU Upgrade and as i saw in some other forums it is possible but that 3070 needs 2x 8pin connectors but my PSU has 1x 6pin and 1x 6+2 pin connectors, i'm here to ask if it's ok to use a 6 pin to 8 pin connector on my psu to be able to upgrade my gpu ??

is that ok ?

this are the other specs of my pc

16 Gig Ram - RX 580 4gig Saphire - I5-9600Kf - 1x xpg s40G m.2 and 1x 2TB HDD

The rtx is higher power consumption than your rx580. You will kill your psu most likely and your system probably too if you do this.

You simply need a better psu it cannot handle a 3070.

Get a b tier unit of at least 650w of this psu tier list:

Do not use adapters like this as they can catch on fire. A 6-pin connector is rated for 75W. An 8-pin connector is rated for 150W.

If your PSU does not have the power connectors you need, it is for a reason. You will need to replace your PSU if you want to use the 3070.
