Dell monitor not working with ps4

I cannot guarantee whether that will work or not. It does not mention stripping HDCP from the signal.

But I have to ask, have you tried an HDMI - DVI cable? Cost is similar if not less than that box and should be more straight forward if it does work.

I recently picked up this monitor (Dell p2210) I'm having issues with connecting it to my PS4. It connects seamlessly to my laptops, but when I connect it to my PS4, it enters power saving mode almost immediately. Tried searching the web but couldn't fix the issue.

Your ps4 might be in set resolution mode and be trying to display a resolution that is outside of the monitors range.

Also are you using any adapters? If so that can disrupt dhcp from working and the ps4 does not like that and can refuse to display an image.

Oh boy... Whatever the EDID that monitor reports, the PS4 might not like that, as it's not 720p or 1080p.

This sounds likely; I had issues with my PS4 on non-native resolutions as well

Yes, I am using  a HDMI → VGA adapter. Is this a problem

Yes. Dhcp does not work then and that means the ps4 will not display any image what so ever.

EDID... And yes, VGA does EDID, EDID dates to 1996.

I'm not talking about edid. I'm talking about hdcp ya know the built in drm for digital signals?

No you need a digital converter to a digital port. Vga is analog. The convertor ALSO needs to support hdcp.

Sorry, when you wrote 'DHCP' instead of 'HDCP' I thought you had meant to type 'EDID'.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but from what I'm understanding the issue isn't with the resolution rather the VGA port. Is this correct?

It could be both.

Here's a Reddit post that talks about using a PS4 with a 16:10 monitor:

They note, however, that to get it to work, they had to use a 16:10 monitor that had native HDMI.

Your best bet with your existing monitor is to pick up an HDMI to DVI adapter or HDMI to DVI cable and try that.

You might find some of this info useful as well:

https://hometheaterhifi.com/volume_11_4/feature-dvi-hdmi-hdcp-connections-11-2004.html

TL;DR, get an HDMI to DVI adapter (ideally one that explicitly lists HDCP support). If that fails to work, your monitor likely isn't going to function.

Another tip, try going into the PS4 settings ahead of time and changing the output resolution (try 720p perhaps). I don't own a PS4 so my experience here is somewhat limited.

I think I figured out thee issue, it seems my VGA →  HDMI cable isn't compatible with PS4. Do you know why this is the case, an can I get one that is?

Not VGA to HDMI (if you're using a VGA to HDMI cable, it straight up won't work, because these cables are directional - they don't work "backwards" due to an active Analog to Digital video processing chip).

HDMI to VGA.

But even with HDMI to VGA, it won't support HDCP so in all likelihood, that's the reason why it's not working. Now - some content on the PS4 might still work without HDCP (I cannot confirm, just a possibility) but even if that's the case (which it probably isn't), many things will be blocked since they require HDCP.

I've looked into what you said, and think I know what you're saying. In order for the PS4 to recognise the signal, could i use a HDMI switch. From what I read these convert the signals so that the PS4 can recognise them. Do you think this would work?

You'd need something that strips the HDCP code out of the HDMI signal - some HDMI switches might do that. You'd have to check the specs. Basically there needs to be something in the chain that tells the PS4 "Yep I've got HDCP here and I'm the end of the chain", not letting the PS4 know about the unsecured monitor on the other end.

I managed to find this: https://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/psg3382/av-to-vga-hdmi-converter/dp/AV28993?mckv=s_dc|pcrid|224635168920|kword||match||plid||slid||product|AV28993|pgrid|46533246385|ptaid|pla-1212013936071|&CMP=KNC-GUK-CPC-SHOPPING&s_kwcid=AL!5616!3!224635168920!!!network}!1212013936071!&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkZiFBhD9ARIsAGxFX8CSkoCRUwcpVLobk8Et4JCzXYOJvV2ztAtWpzEBk3dP6TNBWH9m_ngaAvYmEALw_wcB

Damn, thats a reeally good suggestion. Do you reckon that'd work? I believe DVI is digital so would that wipe out any incompatibility issues?
