Not sure about CPU for PC Build with 3080 inside

Go to solution Solved by Downkey,

with some optimizing you can fit a 5900x and a Gen 4 SSD in there for the same price https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/JDLnvf

Budget (including currency):  not set (£)

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Modern AAA games such as RE8, Cyberpunk, Valorant, etc...

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):  Current build set is following: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/ymCzcT

Was wondering about the CPU and if anyone thinks I should change the CPU i'm buying, it'll be my first build as my current/first computer was a prebuilt and i'm still trying to learn about CPU's in particular and what's good etc, so if anyone has any recommendations or even just comfort that my choice is fine, that would be good haha.

Thanks a bunch :D

its hard to chose a specific platform and CPU with no budget.

5600X is the perfect fit. No need to waste money on anything with more cores and it will easily unlock your 3080's full potential. I'm running the same combo and it's great.

While you could get more cores with a 5800X or something else, it won't give you anything in the games you mentioned.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

How can we answer any of this without knowing what CPU you're buying?

Look at the partslist. It's a 5600X.

Ahh, I am not much of a go find stuff person like that.  I like when the parts list is in the post to see 🙂

5600x is a good call, I second the recommendation.

I set no budget as i'm honestly willing to spend as much as needed within reason to get the best I can for value. Current PC is a 960 with a i5-4690 and so is definitely not too great, especially now-a-days and so decided with my new build I was going to go high end.

Specifically I suppose, I was looking at the Ryzen 7 5800X instead of the 5600X as it's only an extra £100 but i'm honestly unsure the small increase in performance is really worth it?

i would go with a 5800x because you're spending so much on the gpu already

though it wont make much diff in many games (some prefer 8 cores but they're very rare), it's still nice to have some more headroom

i would also look at RM850x just to be more comfy if it's not too much more

but i think RM750x should work fine

CL18 is kinda high but if CL16 costs a lot more then it's probably not worth

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Didn't even pick up on the CL18 and can get CL16 for only an extra £20 so will definitely do so, thanks!

And the PSU was also something I was debating, but I agree with what you've said, especially if I choose to upgrade anything later down the line.

Thanks for the recommendations man, helped alot 😄

no prob

yea i would recommend the 5800x since you dont sound like u upgrade your PC very often

a 5900x would be a tad too much i would say, by the time games would utilise that much cores, you're probably thinking of upgrading anyways

Definitely want to start upgrading more often, and actually keep things up to date this time around instead of leaving it all like I have done and needing a whole new PC 😛

Well I dropped the Water Cooler, because its uncessecary and overpriced. I swapped the MOBO out for a B550 aurous elite v2, it's another good MOBO (it doesnt have wifi tho)
I also droppped the RGB RAM, that can save around $30.

Another option is too go for the 5800x and then get some nice RGB parts, the 5900x isn't that necessary for gaming

Yeah was just looking at doing exactly what you said right now. Thanks for all the help 🙂

then that would change my recommendations

if you plan on upgrading ~2-3 years, i would step down to mid-range so it's better bang for your buck and you get the latest improvements (like CPU IPC boost and what not) when you upgrade to your next build

so a 5600x + 3070, though it would depend on your intended gaming resolution and fps as well for specific GPU recommendations

No reason to get a 5900X for a gaming only build. It's literally wasted money and won't give you anything over a 5600X. At least not anything noticeable.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
