I9 9900K with MSI B250M Bazooka

Hi

I have an RTX 3070 and a i7 7700K, this gives me a bottleneck and low fps. Is the MSI b250m bazooka compatible with an i9 9900K?

There is ALWAYS a bottleneck in ANY system. Dont worry about it, your CPU is still relevant.

What is your resolution? Yes, you could use a better CPU, but a 7700k isn’t horrible.

If your resolution is high enough (I sort of hope it’s at least 2560x1440 with a 3070…..) it shouldn’t be tooooo bad.

That doesn’t seem right. Is that an EXTREMELY cpu mod? I think that’s a mod right?

But a 7700k is a fine chip, definitely getting old and slow compared to the newer stuff, but I run a 6700k @4.6 ghz with a gtx 1080 as a second machine, at 1440p, and it gets about the same FPS as my 11900k and 2080 get at 3440x1440. So resolution going up lands my much “less fast” PC in the same real as my faster one. A 7700k isn’t “bad”… unless that is extremely CPU bound.

What did your old GPU get? What was your old GPU? Have you tried to DDU your drivers?

No, it isn't compatible.

Even if it was, it would be a silly combo because you wouldn't be able to overclock, just like you can't overclock the 7700k now.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Yes please try and monitor the temperatures those frames are absolutely not normal for a 7700k

Your CPU isn't at fault,I get better frames with a muuuuuch worse CPU,there is something else wrong.

I don't know exactly what you're asking.

if you wanted to use a 9900k you would need a new motherboard.

The combo of CPU and motherboard you already have was a foolish pairing.

We have not established that getting a 9900k is in any way necessary.

I recently upgraded from my 7700k to a 9900k, but this was for reasons other than gaming (mostly graphic design and video editing). While I am happy with the upgrade, the increase in gaming fps alone wouldn't justify the cost of the upgrade. If you can keep the temps on that 7700k in check and have no real need for more cores, then I'd say keep the it.

Your CPU is not maxed out, so it could hardly be the limiting factor in your performance.

What are your CPU temps? Is it thermal throttling? Maybe your on a very old BIOS? Have you DDUed your graphics drivers? How old is your Windows install/what Windows are you running?

That isn't necessarily how that works. Actually, its not at all how that works. You can be running programs not at 100% utilization and still benefit from a faster CPU... most things don't hit your CPU 100% and a faster one still makes things faster.

its 80% ingame, so only the game takes 80% then other programmes to so total 90%

Try DDU, and definitely check CPU temps. Let us know 🙂

I am not sure a RAM and mobo upgrade are worth it..... If you were to buy a new mobo, I would get a new platform, either newer intel or AMD.... just not worth spending ~100-120 bucks on RAM and a MOBO for a 7700k... Id save for a new (or used) upgrade instead of putting money into your current system. Try and sell your mobo, CPU and RAM to someone, then use that money to upgrade 🙂

Why 10900k? Can likely find a 9900k or 10700k for a better price. And honestly will be just as good for gaming.
