Go to solution Solved by Freakwise,

hmm... i actually cant find one under 30 that have good ratings on them

though i found one that have good ratings but that on amazon, which you specify that you will not buy it from them

here's the link anyway if you want to see

https://www.amazon.com/FORE-Interface-Converter-Adapter-Laptop/dp/B0719V8MX1/ref=pd_lpo_267_t_1/134-5788875-5331349?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0719V8MX1&pd_rd_r=d4924c33-73bd-4124-a237-4f5414479b09&pd_rd_w=ty3vC&pd_rd_wg=wGQDE&pf_rd_p=a0d6e967-6561-454c-84f8-2ce2c92b79a6&pf_rd_r=6HYBKMD64WDG55XFVK2S&psc=1&refRID=6HYBKMD64WDG55XFVK2S

I'm setting up an old piano/keyboard to use for GarageBand on my Hackintosh, and I'm currently using a 3.5mm audio cable to the line in port on my motherboard.

However, I can't use it like this.

Here's what I play:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1A9xETHpZr7gKXKhaDGMY2DphO-FroODq/view?usp=sharing
And here's what it records:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dpaWnMYygDTkgLO6k27f_vnPonTybFDj/view?usp=sharing

The keyboard has 9 ports on it - 2 1/4" jacks labeled "Phone", 4 3.5mm audio jacks, one stereo pair In, one stereo pair Out, and 3 MIDI ports, labeled In, Out, and Thru.

I did a bit of Googling and you can buy USB to MIDI adapters (here's one that I found), which I think is what I need. I'm not sure which to get though. I'd like decent sound, but I'd like to keep this under $20 (preferably $15).

Note that I will not buy from Amazon.

Also, what's the Thru port for? The adapters I found only connect to In and Out.

You know what model the piano is?

There’s also a third type of port on some MIDI devices called MIDI THRU. This port lets a device copy incoming MIDI data and send out a string of identical data.

MIDI THRU allows MIDI devices to send or take in identical information. So it can be very helpful if you’re linking multiple MIDI devices. (https://www.musicianonamission.com/what-is-midi/#:~:text=A MIDI OUT port allows,a string of identical data.)

Ah, interesting! This is the only MIDI device I have (at least for now) though so I don't see myself using that port yet.

I'm not looking for the best, and $40 is definitely too much.

I wasn't either; it was just an example.

I found something similar on NewEgg for $15.

https://www.newegg.com/p/0SJ-003S-00011?Description=MIDI to USB&cm_re=MIDI_to USB-_-9SIA1HEBVH6024-_-Product&quicklink=true

Unless you have complaints, I think this is what I'll get.
