How to update back to full version of Windows 10 from a modified version?

Hi everyone. Please bare with me on this and I hope this is in the right section...

 

I currently have a custom Windows 10 installation on my PC that I got from Tech YES City on Youtube and I want to "fix / update it back to the full version of Windows 10 and I am not sure how to do it OR if it is even possible...

 

Can I just use Windows Repair and have Windows "fix itself" to get back the FULL FAT version of the OS and if so, will I lose all my programs / data like when you install a fresh version?

 

And if you cant do it like this, is there a way to do it at all without having to start fresh again?

 

Sorry for what I am sure is a NOOOOOOOBISH question... Lol...

Nope and nope

You should wait until next feature update, this 'reinstalls' Windows without deleting stuff. Or you can do a clean install but you will lose everything, so you should make a backup.

Thanks for the swift response... So then if I want to move back to the FULL version I have to reinstall windows all over again? Thats kinda crappy...

You can try to "upgrade" if you are behind a major update or two behind. You can do that by creating a bootable USB device and clicking on Upgrade when installing. It is not something I would suggest though.

This sounds like a good idea but will I be able to install it? I had some notifications in update about like CUMULATIVE updates but I constantly get errors that it cant be installed.

 

That being said, will the FEATURE updates install ok?

This modified version is based on 20H2 and is 10.0.19042 Build 19042... Is this the most recent version?

No way to know, did you check what the author of that mod says? They usually have a FAQ entry about that (and it's usually no since many of those modded builds purposefully break update mechanisms).

I will check again. His YouTube video did say that he was planning updates of his own, etc but I dont remember seeing anything like and FAQ...

Yeah they probably blocked Windows update so you won't have to do it everytime. If 21H1 releases (which can be any moment now) you should try using the Media Creation Tool. If that doesn't work the only option would be backing everything up to a second drive or cloud and reinstalling Windows.

This sounds like a plan my friend... I will give the new feature update a try when it comes out...
