My 2cents: it could be harddrive yeah, but to me sounds more like software maybe.

Did you update BIOS recently, newest chipset drivers ,and are you on latest win version?

Also full specs please?

my apologies! I never got notified of your reply, the issue fixed itself... I honestly have no idea at this point, I'll simply chalk it up as windows fuckery and hope it remains working for my own sanity.

Thanks, though!

Recently after a blue screen (I think if I recall correctly memory/storage related, though I may be wrong) my pc is refusing to go to sleep. It simply gets stuck staying on after the screens shut off and after about 2-3 minutes it shuts down.

I have also noticed a weird issue where sometimes windows does not respond at all, but things that are still open work fine. IE: If Brave is open I can still interact with it, but opening any other program such as epic games if their not already open simply doesn't work.

I once had this and it finally catched up, suddenly programs and commands started to execute (such as ctrl alt delete) that I tried minutes ago, but most of the times my monitors suddenly go black (I suspect because alt, ctrl delete comes through minutes late) but there is nothing I can do other then shut off the computer at that point.

I have tried updating windows and everything like last time (I had this issue once before and that fixed it) but no cigar... I feel like there's a window of opportunity for a bad joke in there but maybe I'm just blowing smoke.

I have long suspected my RAM to be corrupted/broken but the issues have started to get worse/were never this bad, the only thing I changed is switch from a 2080 ti to a 960 and lose my main monitor (Hence the gpu switch as well), alongside switching my primary m.2 with my secondary due to heat.

Does anyone know what might be the issue? Or better yet, maybe also a solution.

Do you have any hard disk drives in your system? If you do, try to unplug the SATA data connector from said drive(s), rebooting, and see if the problems continue. Many of your symptons scream incredibly slow storage (for example, brave being fine but openning another app doesn't work was common for me on a failing laptop HDD)

And if for some reason your computer refuses to boot without the hard drives u may have accidently installed windows to a HDD this whole time, or you have the same problem I have where I need W10 installed on both a HDD and a M.2 at the same time in order to boot. I haven't solved the issue, but I have mostly circumvented it. But my issue never created any of the symptoms you have.

Or maybe you M.2 is overheating and needs a heatsink.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

My past and current projects: VR Flight Sim: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=dG38Jx (Done!)

A do it all server for educational use: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=vmmNcf (Cancelled)

My computer uses 100% ssd's, windows is on my m.2 that I put under the heat sink and runs 30-40c on idle.

IDC about Idle, I need temperatures when under load. So open up a monitoring utility, pin it to top (or keep on a second monitor), and put your M.2 under load.

Also what is the remaining capacity as a % of all your SSDs?

Under load really should not matter as every time the issue occurs my system is under no severe load, but from previous times I tested it it runs about 55-65 under load.

60/476

286/465

And 853/931 for my non m.2 ssd

So the 60/476 is C:? That could maybe be your problem. Also what is the brand and model of the primary M.2 drive? If it is samsung then I have personal experience with alliviating this problem. If it is not, well I can only alleviate some of it from personal experience.

It is samsung and 60 gb should be 0 issue, it's still within the "blue zone" and no where even close enough to cause issues such as things freezing up / the pc not going to sleep.

The red zone is a higher trigger than the red zone that Samsung suggests. I encourage you to transfer at least 30-40 gigs of files from C: to your 2.5" SSD. Preferably files or games you don't play often or where the loading times are so incredibly fast you won't be bothered by having it load from an 2.5" SSD.

I also suggest you download Samsung Magician, and run some of the diagnostic tests on C:

And when that is done go to "overprovisioning" and increase the percentage value in the bottom right of the screen by like up to 4 percent.

Adjust the overprovisioning only after transferring the files.

You may also want to run the defragment tool on all your drives because it is good maintenance. And it will slightly alleviate your problem by a bit, which if nothing else works is still good news I guess.

M.2 barely makes a noticeable difference in loading times inside of games, but ignoring that, a ssd will not struggle nor be annoyed about how much space it has left till you really start to ride the edge.

60 gigs out of 476 is not nearly enough for a high quality m.2 to care

I already have samsung magician and have ran their tests, overprovisioning is utterly overkill as it's already build into the drive itself.

Like 7% is built in, but you can increase speeds by adding even more.

Also defragment is not required when you use SSD's, and you do not really increase the speeds by doing that.

You can increase the life time/shelf life of your ssd possibly by doing it, but not so much the speeds.

That still however helps my sleep issue very little and it most likely will do nothing for the freezes, as windows itself refuses to work and it has zero suggestions nor indications of even bothering to load things.

I said it was maintenance. And especially on DRAM-less SSDs it can increase speeds.

If you are going to just ignore my advice and fight back, then I have other places on this forum I can help out with. I don't have a ton of experience diagnosing SSDs but chances are this thread will be dead and you will have to ask again or ask elsewhere. I'm sorry I was not of help or sounded stupid.

Just upset, today has not been a good day and I enjoy helping people with their tech questions, not trying to sound toxic.

Summed up (My apologies, I thought TLDR meant summed up and not too long did not read x-x): Everything you have asked and told me to do I have already done or I know is most likely not the issue, defragging is also a thing automatically done by ssds.

I do appreciate you trying to help, I am not saying I don't.

I am also not sure if it's my drives fault, some kind of software, or my ram.

You cant defragment a SSD, they call it TRIM, its like defragmenting but not really, also Windows does it automatically, but it never does...  its complicated.
