Is heat the only thing that will damage my GPU when crypto mining? How can I optimize my setup?

mqmqmq

I'm using my gaming pc to crypto mine, so I care quite a lot about whether or not my components will get damaged. So my "GPU Load" is constantly at 100% when crypto mining. Will this damage my GPU in the long run? I think my GPU temperature is low, but could running the GPU at 100% still damage it even if the heat is low? I have not done any over/under-clocking which is what I want to look into.

These are my GPU stats after a few hours of mining. Are these good? What should I do to better optimize it for longevity, which is frankly the only thing I care about.

Generally underclock the core, overclock the memory and reduce the power target for mining.

For my 3090 I use -300 core, +1000 memory and 80% power in MSI Afterburner

For my 1660 super I use -350 core, +700 memory and 60% power

Youll have to test it while mining if those changes affect your Hashrate

And as far as I know, as long as your temps are fine, the only thing wearing out faster than normal are the fans if you run them at a high RPM.

My Gaming PC:
Inno3D iChill Black - RTX 4080 - +500 Memory, undervolted Core, 2xCorsair QX120 (push) + 2xInno3D 120mm (pull)

As far as I know, heat and voltage degrade the lifespan of electronics. Both are also directly related. Cards that ate being used at 100% 24/7 min will definitely be prone to problems rather sooner than later. Normally the card pays itself in a few months, but now that hardware is scarce and expensive, mining with your single graphics card may not be a good idea.

given it's a 2080, these are what you're supposed to get

Spoiler

image.png.fe41ef444b9a2b7e46729a903f88e5dd.png

108W vs 125W which is what you're getting, so sounds about right

i assume you're using quickminer, so it tunes your GPU automatically, though it's a pretty generic setting so it's not the best that u can get

given that your GPU is operating below the stock power limit, the VRM shouldnt be stressed too much, as well as GPU core

VRAM is fine as long as it's adequately cooled

so the only thing left to worry is fan bearing, which imo, is easy to just strap a new fan onto it

but i've been mining since 2017 and only had one gpu fan die, 3 months into it, and it's my old gaming card so -shrug-

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
