NEED HELP WITH SINGLE STICK DDR4 RAM

Hey guys!
Wanted to ask that my single stick ram is running at 1600mhz after setting the xmp profile to 3200mhz from the bios
Some people telling me that i need 1 more stick so it runs on 3200mhz
Because 1600mhz+1600mhz = 3200mhz

I didn’t have the budget to buy another stick at the time i got the pc but ill get it if it fixes my problem 

my specs

Ryzen 5 2600x

msi b450m mortar

Teamgroup Tforce zeus 1x8 single stick 8gb DDR4 RAM 3200mhz

Thats not how it works.

In many programs, 3200MHz will show as 1600MHz. You are probably running at 3200 and fine.

It's running at 3200, dont worry.

The actual clock is 1600MHz which is correct. 

DDR = Double Data Rate - > 2x1600MHz = 3200MHz (MT/s is correct instead of MHz in this case, its the effective clock). 

 

So it's running correctly in your case. 

 

Anyways, get another stick whenever you can (if you need more CPU performance) . Two sticks at 2133MHz will easily outperform single stick at 3200MHz.

Stop listening to these people, they know nothing about PC's.

 

As @davemcalluded to, the DDR in DDR4 RAM stands for "double data rate." Without going into a detailed technical explanation of what that means (though there is probably a TechQuickie video on it), many system monitoring applications will report the RAM speed at half what it's actually running at and you have to "double" it in your head. The base DDR4 speed of 2133mhz will appear as 1066, etc. 

 

The morons giving you bad advice are confusing double data rate with dual channel, which has no impact on the speed the RAM runs at per se. You WILL see a performance benefit from adding a second matched stick to run in dual channel but it has no bearing on the frequency of the RAM.
