$750 for an RTX 3070?

I feel a bit nervous about buying this.. 

I bought a used - like new RTX 3070 for $750 from a "fixitfixitfixit" discord notification on Amazon. 
Is this a super scalped price? Like, I know I will have to overpay somewhat for one, but is this a stupid price? 

The main discord guy said it could very well be a scam company selling it, but that isn't necessarily what I am worried about since Amazon can give me my money back. 

Another weird thing is this company is selling a 3080 for $500 with the same "used - like new" thing. Why is this less than the 3070??

I'm just going to wait it out and when it gets here I guess i'll know if it's a scam or not.

if you've ordered it and its trash, amazon have a buyer protection program i think.

I was super excited because I thought I finally got a 3070 but after I calmed down and checked discord I realized I got scammed. I didn't cancel the order in time and it went through so I contacted Amazon and filed a dispute. Said if vendor does not respond within the time limit they will cover with buyers remorse. It made me feel a little better but definitely a bummer.

tbh in the current climate, I can't recommend buying a GPU unless you can get it for MSRP from a reputable retailer. Apart from playing into the scalpers hands, it's just not worth the hassle of checking daily.

 

Pretty happy running with the iGPU on my 10700K for now, gives me a chance to play some of my older games pretty well.

This is pretty ridiculous imo,  in Germany GPUs are *never* msrp, you can easily add 100 euros to "msrp" for a realistic price, and thats *before* the whole covid thing.

 

And as dumb as it may sound ,this isnt normal times rn, paying a couple 100s over is expected, and seeing  the demand its justified imo. That doesnt  mean you should buy from scalpers, though its to be expected  to pay a bit more at this time.

 

I bought my 3070 in december for 750 euros btw, funny enough exactly  what i expected even before release, and think only 50 above "msrp" pretty damn worth it if you ask me, i wish i got the Vulcan OC instead though , but it was already  900 back then so i had to do with a cheap-o Vision OC.

 

I mean, i respect your opinion, integrated might work for you, but i definitely *disagree* with the notion considering the circumstances.

I believe you can still score a card at MSRP near MSRP with certain brands like eCGA, perhaps nVidia themselves though that is highly unlikely, and through AMD themselves. AIB's won't sell their cards at MSRP, especially so for their custom cooled model (which usually retains above MSRP anyway).

IF such cards were available, I'm sure gamers would lap them up. But why sell these cards for 200+ - 300+ when they can be sold at, what, 700 a pop. Yet they had the audacity to spin it like they were doing us gamers a solid when they created this CMP branch.

 

I managed to land a Nitro+ RX 6900 XT on the 2nd of January at what can now be considered a 'good' price of about 1350USD, didn't consider an RTX 3080 because: 1) only 10GB VRAM, 2) price of RTX 3080 here is not far off an RX 6900 XT, with some of the more premium air-cooled models from GB/MSI/Asus/etc being equal to or more expensive than my card. 

 

Considering an RTX 3060 here in my neck of the woods can cost upwards of 900USD now, the future of GPU prices isn't looking that great now, and nobody's disputing the possibility, probabilty more like it, that this situation is gonna drag on till late next year, even up to 2023!

 

Unless it's a reputable site like Amazon/Newegg/BB/etc (and they themselves are selling the cards, NOT 3rd party sellers) marketing cards near MSRP, I'd say that any 3rd party or individual sites that are selling cards at near MSRP be approached with the utmost caution, IF a deal looks too good to be true, let me tell ya bud, it is!

I was replying to the OP whose location is listed as "wherever you put it" but is referring to an Amazon US listing and prices in USD, so it's reasonable to believe that they're based in the US. Therefore I don't understand why you have issue with my advice for the OP when the state of play in the US is clearly different when cards at their non-inflated price are available if you're lucky, time it right or have a retail store to go to. I know the UK market pretty well and yes, it looks no better than you say Germany is - but I still can't recommend overpaying when waiting is probably the better option if you can be patient.

 

Also, you've quoted me out of context - I said "MSRP from a reputable retailer", and you chose to ignore the words "reputable retailer" which is a big difference in meaning.

 

I also didn't say that my opinion was necessarily right for everyone, just that I don't like seeing people getting scammed and that's definitely a problem right now thanks to demand.
