Looking for a HBA (host bus adapter) to put in a server

Toby waiting

Hi

I have recently purchased an old Dell server it's nothing special, but I was looking to install unraid on it and run a simple file server.

as it comes with a raid card I was looking to buy and install an HBA in the PCI E slot

I have been doing some research trying to work out what I need to get

the requirements are:

it must have 2 internal mini SAS drive connectors

be relatively low cost.

I was looking at this product

https://gbr.grandado.com/products/raidstorage-avago-lsi-sas-3081e-r-lsisas1068e-b3-8-port-hba-jbod-sff8087-minisas-3gb-pci-e-x8-controller-card?variant=UHJvZHVjdFZhcmlhbnQ6MjMxNzk3MDY

however I'm not sure if it is the right thing to get

it is only a  Dell PowerEdge 2950

I bought it used on eBay I was going to install the card in the expansion slot instead of where the raid card goes

If things went to plan, I was going to use the raid card I previously linked with this cable

https://www.google.com/shopping/product/7975704855197032167?q=SAS-8484&prds=epd:13200626398500809947,eto:13200626398500809947_0,prmr:1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj8kPH_7L_wAhVM5uAKHTtODiIQ9pwGCAg

to connect it to the backplane of the server

Is this correct setup Please note I don't really want to buy a raid card and flash it to IIT mode

thanks

Just saying, id stay far away from a 2950, there hot, loud, power hungry and slow. It will be cheaper to get a newer system in power savings alone.

Id get a hba like a dell h200 here, pretty cheap on ebay and will work fine.
